Hi R.,
How's the tummy trouble thing going? You know I had the same problem with my 8 month old when he was little. We also did that formula change thing and mylicon but it never worked until I tried the bottle by Dr. Brown's that's suppsed to prevent some spit up and reduces gas intake for babies. (I got mine at babie's r us) it's a bit pricey but it was worth it. You can pretty much get them anywhere I think. He's on regular bottle now since I've tried to change him back to the regular formula and he's been fine (with the doctors ok) If you want to try those bottle please let me know I would be more than happy to send you mine for nothing. I'm not sure how to do the address thing since i'm pretty new here but if they allow to trade addresses I will be more than happy to send you the bottles. All you have to do is buy the nipples for it, which is not much. Good luck!

my son had some gas but not to the same extreme as your baby though. We used the mylcon too but I also gave him water which helped bring up the gas.

You might want to try infant massage. It can do wonders for fussy, colicky, gassy, and constipated babies.

Lay the baby down on her back on a firm, but soft surface, such as a folded blanket on a table. She can be in a onesy or naked, it doesn't matter. You can use baby lotion (do NOT use massage oils) or just your bare hands. Startign at the babies toes, massage gently but firmly as if you were kneading bread dough, one leg at a time. Gradually move up the foot, ankle, calf, and thigh, then move to the other leg doing the exact same thing. After the legs, do the arms starting with the finger tips. Then move to the chest, but when you reach the tummy, use the palms of your hands and go in clockwise motions over the belly. The motion direction is very important. The massaging will help pass along gas, aid digestion, ease colic, and generally relax the baby, and at this point the baby may pass gas from the massage or even have a bowel movement.

The more relaxed the baby is, the easier it is to pass gas and a BM. Keeping that in mind, a nice warm bath can help too. You just have to be ok with the chance that the baby will have a BM in the tub.

The more tense a baby is, the harder it is to pass gas, the more the baby will cry, and the more gas will build up from swallowing air while crying.

Mylanta, yes I know it is for adults, but my 14 month's gastro told us we can use it (please ask your pediatrician) along with mylicon. My daughter had rexlux pretty bad,and she always had to sleep on an incline. (perhaps you can try that) we just bought a cheap bouncy chair from walmart that had several reclining positions, and she slept in it. It was nice because I could bounce her to sothe her as well. We used Soy Formula, and just a bit of info for mom's out there... YOUR INSURANCE WILL COVER YOUR CHILDS FORMULA IF IT IS NOT JUST THE MILK BASED BASIC FORMULA. ASK your childs doc for a perscription for the soy formula. It took some paperwork but for 50.00 I got 18 16.9 oz cans of enfamil lipil prosobee, and that lasted me over 2 months.

About the Mylanta, we gave her a half teaspoon up to 3 times a day (get dose from doc please!!) and we found if you keep it in the fridge it went down better. We gave the Mylicon EVERY time we fed her, dosage instructions for it say up to 10x a day so as long as you dont over do it. Make sure you get a burp, rub her back, pat from the rump to the neck and back down. Good luck and take advantage of your insurance.

Hi R.,
I had the same problems with both of my girls. (one is 3 1/2 the other 8 months) I gave them a small bottle of chamomile tea with lemon and a little sugar. Also, we gave my oldest warm sugar water. It worked wonders with the gas and constipation that formula and breastmilk can have. The hospital told me about the sugar water and my pediatrician told me about the tea. Maybe 2-4 oz luke warm. Hope it helps you the way it helped me.

My daughter, now 6,had the same problem. I put her on nutrigamen formula. I actually put gas drops in her bottle at night to try to get her to sleep for 2 hrs. Do not put her flat for 1/2 hr. after eating. You can buy a wedge for under her mattress to keep her at an angle. During the day I let her sleep in the swing & at night I let her sleep on her belly. Was she small at birth? You could also try putting rice cereal in her bottle. I put 1 tsp./2 oz. Another thing to try is feeding her on your shoulder. Act as if you are going to burp her but give her a bottle. Drs. say not to do most of these things but they are getting a full nights rest sometimes. Congratulations & Good Luck! It will get better when she starts eating food & the liquid isn't swooshing around in there.

my daughter had the same thing...if i could recommend a miracle formula it is NUTRAMIGEN by Enfamil!!!!!! it is very costly but there is a reason why..because it WORKS! it was wonderful Stopped gas, fuss, colic w. in 24 hrs...do not do mylicon it makes it worse...if your baby has a lot of gas you can do an adult dosage of Maalox. My daughter suffered from severe reflux and gas and these worked wonders. She is 3 yrs old now and wonderful! Good Luck. let me know if it works

We have had similar situation. Hated the milacon. We used GRIPE WATER. It works like a miracle it is only natural and has no side effects. FOR INFANTS AND CHILDREN the body and belly love it. it is great for bellys, teething, sleeping. It is just miraculous. look it up on line or go to your local indian store - most sell it there. Good luck.

Make sure you talk to your pediatrician about this. My son had stomach issues too. When we moved to soy things improved initially and then they started going downhill again. The ped thought he might be suffering from reflux and gave us a perscription for something. I can't remember what it was but it did help.

Another thing we did that helped was get a vibrating seat for him. I don't know if it was because it shook out the bubbles or what but he was happier after using it. WE got the Fisher Price Infant-to-Toddler rocker. It is a good solid chair and now that he is older, he can still fit in it to watch tv.

Hi R.-
My cousin's baby has had the same experience. He is now on his fourth formula. He was on Enfamil, Isomil Soy, Gentlease & is now on Good Start Soy and is almost 100% better after only being on it for a day or so. He was constantly gassy & fussy. Mylicon would work, but there is only so much you can give it. She had to use it about 4 times a day which was the maximum the pediatrician told her she could give it. Maybe try the Carnation Good Start-it has the comfort proteins and is easier to digest. Good luck.

I had problems with my youngest too. I switched her formula to Soy and she did great after that. You said that that is what she is on now? It might be that se is still allergic to that also, there is "goat's" milk formula that they have to prescribe to the baby if need be, but if it's just gas that your having trouble with than here are some suggestions for you: I had to take my 1st child off of Enfamil and put her Simalic and that helped her with gas ( had to switch the same with my step son) Enfamil seems to have a lot more stuff in it than simalic ( I personally like simalic better because of that) but if the baby is on Simalic try going to Enfamil. There is also Carnation formula ( don't know if they have it in Soy) but that is suppose to be better for their tiny little belly's. Also if it is just Gas that seems to be buliding up in the belly, try laying her across your lap on her belly after feeding ( or if she has a belly ach), "bounce" your knees up and down ( not rapidly, but I think you understand that) and pat her back as your doing that. Then take your hand on her back ( while she is still on her belly) cup your hand on her back and rub up towards her head, pick your hand up and then put it back on her back (down almost next to her butt) and do it over again. I must warn you for some reason doing this helps them burp a lot better than just up on your shoulder, and it might get messy so put down a burp cloth on your lap, and ya might want to put one down on the floor under where her face is ( makes cleaning up alot easier). I hope this helps, please keep me informed on how she's doing.

Hi R.,

My dauther had to switch formulas at least three or four times as well in her first month. She had an allergy to the protein in diary products, so our Dr put her on Nutramegian by Enfamil and it works great. She will be 8 mths in a few days and she's been using it ever since. It's a little more expensive that most of the other formulas, but it's worth it. You may want to try it, you can find it at the supermarket or drug stores, or even babies r'us or toys r'us. Sometimes it's a challenge to find, but toys r'us and target are usually well stocked with it. Also, you may want to try using the Dr. Brown's bottles, which reduce the amount of air you baby swallows while drinking the bottle, hence the gas will be reduced. Hope this helps! I know it's frustrating, but hang in there!

My daughter was the same way. She ended up having acid reflux and they put her on zantac and then she was fine. But try Alimentum by Similac before you go that route. It's the cadillac of all formulas and it's supposed to really help.
Good Luck!

my son was the same way R.. I tried every type of formula as well as breast milk and it was useless! I finally got him on LACTOSE FREE formula and it did wonders. Also, have your pediatrician check for GURD (reflux). My son had it and I didn't know until he was 2 1/2 years old! Poor kid was sick and I didn't know it. Try elevating her mattress so her head is propped up a bit and check with your ped to see if the Mylocon isn't working to try Pepcid or some other antacid type medication.

Hope that helps a bit!!
