My 9 week old does not get tummy time. I put her on her tummy and she justs lays there...sometimes even falling asleep. I have tried toys and talking to get her attention and lift her head but she seems content. And if I push it she just starts crying. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I wouldn't stress about it. Try again in a few weeks. My daughter is 5 months old and She just started playing on her tummy about a few weeks ago. about a month ago after time and time again trying her on her tummy she rolled over. Almost as if she was telling me, "I'm done with that, can I please stay on my back"

When my youngest was a baby, he hated to be on his belly (except to sleep). You can always lay on the bed or couch with your head and chest slightly raised up and put her on your chest on her belly. She might like looking into your face. She is still pretty young, I wouldn't worry too much.

There is a tummytime mat that comes with a little pillow, but it maybe a tiny bit too big for a newborn. You can also hold them with their belly to your belly, most times babies want to see their mom or dad and will life their head to see your face. My oldest (now 2 1/2) did most of her tummytime on my tummy:) Good luck.

I felt the same way! My son either didn't care & would fall asleep or cry. I kept thinking that he would not gain what is needed from tummy time because he hated it but little by little they get there liking & gaining more an more each day-then one day it is like nothing to them and they are picking up their head & chest too!

Just keep doing all your doing! They will get it!

She's just 9 weeks, give her time and keep trying. You can try putting her on the couch and you can sit on the floor that way you can get lower to her face. Also try toys with light and noises. Tummy time is important, your doing great, keep up the good work, and remember if you blink she'll be crawling before you know it!!!

My baby is nine weeks old as well! BUT, she enjoys tummy time, she lifts her head and looks around. I do lay on the floor with her, and encourage her and try to keep her interested. I will say, she only likes tummy time when she is up from her naps and in a good mood. If she is tired or cranky, then she will just lay there and cry...
Not much help for you, I would suggest talking with your Ped, he/she might be able to reassure you that she is normal.

My great niece was the same way. Just give it some time. Don't fret about whether or not she is average or not just enjoy your daughter. She will catch up and exceed the others in time. :)

As long as she isn't crying while she is just laying there, she should be fine. :) Even if she starts crying during tummy time, it is best to let her cry for a little while. She will get annoyed of not being mobile and learn to crawl faster. My daughter had SOOOOOOOO much tummy time, and she started crawling at 4 1/2 months. :)

My son was in early intervention because he was a preemie. He didn't like tummy time that much either, but the therapist suggested rolling up a thick blanket from one end to the other, then curving it into a U shape and propping him up with his arms out in front. You could also do it with a boppy pillow, if you have one. Anything to build both arm, neck and back muscles. It my take a week or more, but every little bit helps.

You can check with the Doc if you like, but I wouldn't really worry. My daughter didn't do much tummy time and turned out just fine. I think it's the same as everything else; i.e. walking, talking, potty training.... Each kids likes some things better than others and will do everything on their own time.

Do you put her on the floor? If you lay down and have her lay on you, that counts as tummy time. She will push up to look at you at that age probably wants to see you more than she is interested in the toys. My baby is 8 weeks old and that is what I do with her, otherwise she cries when she is on the floor.

Just keep trying. Try to be sure she is in a good mood, too. You can also try laying her down on something she wants to look at. This could motivate her to lift her head up and look. I had a blanket with a soft mirror on in and my boys would lift their heads so they could look down at it. It also won't hurt to call her doctor if she doesn't get it soon.
