You all always make me feel better,so here I am again. When did your babies startsleeping on their tummies? My daughter will be 7 months tomorrow, and for the past two nights she's been flipping over to sleep on her stomach. She was a good sleeper on her back, no sleep issues. I am just a nervous nelly and feel like I constantly have to check her breathing! Encouragement? Advice? Not sure what I'm looking for. I just want to be ok with this. Lol. Thanks!
*edit* Thank you for mentioning the bumpers. I just checked in her and her face is almost against it, but enough room to breathe. I will be taking those out!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

You are really ALL so wonderful! Thanks so much. I have to tell you what happened last night. I was nervous aboutthe bumpers cause she kept putting her face in them, but also scared to take them out because I know her little arms and legs can fit through. She had a broken arm from delivery and don't want to go through that again. At midnight I moved her to the pack n play because it has mesh sides, and boy did I regret it! Lol. She was up playing on her tummy til 2:30am! Tonight, it's regular bed and a more at ease Mommy! Thanks again.

My son did this at 4 months. His ped said if hes strong enough to roll over then he is fine sleeping on his stomach. I told her I wanted to keep flipping him over and she said it wasnt necessary. At 7 months, shes probably just fine sleeping like that.

If they can turn over, they can sleep on their bellies. Do not worry.

My DD turned 7 months yesterday, and started stomach sleeping the day before that. :)

Doc told us that if they can roll from back to tummy then they can definitely roll back and not to worry about it. I think ours started doing it between 5 and 6 mos with both (now 2 and 3.5). Try not to worry.

All 3 of my girls slept on their tummy's from the beginning. My dr. told me it was ok and not to worry about it. He said that 10 years ago (this was 8 years ago) that they recommended babies to sleep on their tummy's and that he really doesn't think it makes a difference. Just not to put heavy blankets near her face, and watch out for the crib bumpers. You should be fine especially if she can roll over on her own and is able to turn her head from one side to the other while laying on her belly. If she is not getting enough oxygen, her brain will turn her head without her even knowing it....LOL

all of mine started sleeping on their tummies as soon as they could roll over. i think at 7 months i wouldn't worry about it. if she got to that position she probably likes it. and as someone else stated they are soooo cute with their little butt up when they sleep:)

My daughter started sleeping on her tummy almost as soon as she could lift her head up. I say its perfectly fine, especially if she is turning over onto her tummy, no worries mommy :)

If she can turn over both back to front and front to back then I wouldn't worry. Both of mine liked to sleep on their tummy some of the time once they could roll over. My 4 year old still scoots all over the bed in his sleep.

My daughter would sleep almost on her stomach - on her side as early as 5 months. There is nothing you can do about it. (Positioners are really dangerous!) I was always told if they can push up and flip they are strong enough to keep breathing when a newborn might not. I also believe bumpers are dangerous, so I would get rid of those if you ever used them. Otherwise try not to worry - they are really cute with their butts up on theri tummies :)

I don't want to hear griping from the moms telling me how wrong they think I am for this..... My daughter was about 2 weeks old & she started sleeping on her tummy. Just 2 weeks. There are pros and cons to back sleeping, tummy sleeping and the new thing is side sleeping. Doctors and experts have gone back & forth on this for ages. I'm sure moms will send you links & stuff with safety this and SIDS that.... My daughter is now over 3 years old and perfectly fine. In fact, there were a few times she spit up in the night & rather than choking on it, she just spit it out in the crib. Yucky rub your face in but better out than in! :)
