So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice. I had my tubes tied almost 2 months already. The procedure itself was fast. The recovery though was a bit painful, more than I thought it would be. I stayed in bed for 2 days, while my husband took care of the kids and myself. I have gotten one menstrual last month and it was normal. It wasnt that bad, I'm glad it all went well. Very happy with my four kids now!!

It will be OK. Everyone gets nervous about getting "put under"...have you ever had anesthesia before? If so, don't worry about. If not, it's not all that bad...it is a little weird when you finally come to, I had no memory of being put under...it was like 1 minute they were telling me it was time, then the next minute they were telling me it was over and everything went smoothly...it does take a minute to come back to reality when you wake up...I remember I asked "what time is it"? Like 10 times:)

I had mine done 2 years ago and everything has been fine. My periods have not changed that much...but they are a bit shorter, which is cool!

I had mine tied and reversed it because it caused a hormone imbalance that I couldn't live with. I'm not sure why but if you're sensitive or have PMS do your research. Look at tubal ligation syndrome. Some women have extra PMS symptoms and some don't have any symptoms and some are exaggerated like me. Otherwise, the surgery for me was very quick and easy recovery. It was done laproscopic as outpatient. Reversing it, on the other hand, was much harder. It was more like a C-Section. Good luck and congratulations!

I had a tubal ligation and a procedure called an endometrial ablation (sp?) The ablation is going in and kind of cauterizing the inside of your uterus... so I don't have a period anymore! yay! My experience with the anesthesia was great. I was nervous, too. I think that's pretty normal. Good luck!

There is a new less invasive procedure that can be done in the office, not outpatient, and doesn't require general anesthesia. I lost my insurance when I was waiting for a consult so I don't have all the details or the exact name. I am looking forward to getting it done. My sister had her tubes tied and didn't have any complications from it. She told me her periods used to average 5 days and now average about 3 days w/less cramping. Looking forward to that too. =)

I had my tubes tied nearly 7 years ago and, outside of my children's birth days and my wedding day, was the single best day of my life. My surgeon was excellent, the facility was excellent and I had zero complications. My cycle worked itself back to my pre-birth control cycle within 2 months and general anesthesia was like taking a nap and waking up (only I was far more thirsty).

But, having said all that, be VERY certain you don't want any more children. After much discussion, my husband and I decided a tubal was better than a vasectomy because, if something happened to him, I would still not ever want more children. However, my husband felt that if something happened to me, he would be willing to have a new family with a new wife. Thus, me getting "snipped" was the smarter route. I haven't regretted it for a single minute.

Good luck!

I had mine done and am saving to have it reversed. I have had a lot of hormone problems and wish I would have researched it more. My advice, have your husband do it, its not hormonal for them.

Rest assred YOU WILL BE FINE!!! General Anesthesia has come long way-Plese do not worry. I was advised some years ago that I would experience abnormal bleeding before during and possibly after my menstrual cycle. I am so glad I tied the tubes. I have never been more "regular". You may want to take some supplements pre and post surgery
Bromelain, Arnica Montana... Vitamin C ?? This will aid in the healing process. My tummy was a lille bloated and that caused slight discomfort.. but nothing major... Take care and know that you will be fine!! Happy Healing!!! Hugs!!! D

I had my tubes tied right after my c-section with myDD. Everything went well. But if I had a choice, I wouldn't do it again. Ever since my daughter was born I have had increased issues with hormone balance, menstrual pain, etc.

I don't want to scare you, but do your homework before you have this procedure. Most women have no complications after the tubal ligation. But a number of women have issues that fall into the category of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. Women who have had hormone (miscarriage, low thyroid, infertility, irregular periods, etc.) or chronic illnesses or on going issues in the past are at higher risk for PTLS.

I wish I would have known about PTLS before I had my tubal.

Your surgery should be fine and you will be fine. But it's the long term after effects that you need to look at. My daughter is almost 3 years old and I just had my uterus removed on Wednesday due to heavy bleeding and unbearable pain. Prior to getting preggo with my daughter I had minor issues with low thyroid and adrenal output for about 3 years. Then after my daughter was born and after my tubal my thyroid issues got worse, I developed Fibromyalgia (a chronic pain disease), and had very painful periods ever since.

I would also recommend having your spouse get snipped. Far less invasive of a procedure for him, and it doesn't affect his hormones at all. Looking back at all I have gone through in the last 3 years, hubby says he would have gotten snipped if he had known then about PTLS and the affects it would have had on me. And this is the guy who practically jumped out of his seat for joy when the OB told us I had to have a c-section. We had previously agreed that if I had to have a c-section that I would get the tubal done at the same time. If I delivered vaginally he would have to get snipped.

Also, congrats on your new baby! Hope you are both doing well.

I also get nervous about the general anesthesia and I have been through 7 major surgeries. It is scarey to think that you might not wake up from it, who would take care of your kids, etc. With every surgery I am not scared for myself, but for my family and how they would be if something happened to me. My best advice is to pray. I believe in God and I pray a lot leading up to surgery. I also share my concerns with my hubby, my best friend, my sister, and my Mom (the people who are my innermost circle of support). Don't hold it in, lean on those around you that you trust. Going through surgery and recovery is a stressful time for a person. I usually try to focus on the 6 week post surgery mark (the standard time where you can get back to strenous physical activity after a surgery) and pick one thing that I will get to do once I get the all clear from my doctor. For this surgery I am focused on being excited about getting back to Yoga after a 4 year hiatus because of health issues. I can't wait to get back to it :).

Good Luck!
