Trying to Play It cool...Braxton Hicks?

I am about 30 weeks pregnant with my second child and I am having what I think are Braxton Hicks among other things. My first baby was born early, so I'm a little extra cautious, but I'm just not sure what to make of how I'm feeling tonight. I know my doctor would tell me to go to L&D if I called her, which is why I'm not going to call her right now...so, I'm just wondering what you experienced mamas make of the following:

My belly feels tight on and off, but there's no obvious start or stop to it. In other words, I can't tell if they are lasting 1 minute or 5 minutes or how many minutes are in between. It's like it's there, and then it's not. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense, except that there's tightening, Then, it will feel TIGHTER and I will rub the side of my belly and it will be soft and the side that feels tighter will be a baby butt (very obvious).

I'm feeling pelvic pressure and a few sharp pains but 1) I never dropped with my first pregnancy, so this is kind of a new thing for me 2) this baby seems to stretch a lot and put pressure on my hip bone and rib cage and I'm thinking the pressure is the baby moving or pushing or whatever.

I have cramps but I also have gas (sorry, I know, TMI). I also have an ache on my right side, but I feel like that's from being kicked and butted from the inside.

My low back hurts but it feels like normal pregnancy backache. It for sure does not feel like back labor which I had with my first. It feels like ache on the outside muscles and my sciatic nerve (my butt and leg hurt also).

It's 7:40 at night and I don't want to go to L&D without something that SERIOUSLY concerns me. I would say at best I am mildly concerned. My doctor will get me in in the morning if I feel like it is urgent.

Honestly, if this were my first child I'd probably have freaked by now and gone to L&D to get checked out but I don't feel like wasting a few hours there when it's probably just me being nervous. Truthfully, I'm just not feeling well today. I'm tired, I feel anxious and weepy and as a result my tummy kind of hurts...

I've tried resting and that helps until I have to get up and go to the bathroom or get food or whatever.

So, would you call your doctor or would you wait until the morning or what? I'm a little nervous but not enough to do anything about it except that I'm nervous that I'm not being cautious enough....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies. I did just need some comforting and some rest. I drank some water and went to bed and although I can't say I feel totally better this morning, I am less anxious. I spoke with my doctor who is going to see me in a couple of hours and I'll feel better after just being checked out.

How long a drive is it to the hospital or where ever you will delliver? If you really dont have what you feel are contractions, you probably are just feeling big and uncomfortable and need rest, and water, and a hug, and can get thru the night. Then call the dr in the morning and ask if you should be seen before the next scheduled appt. If you are far away, Id call now and ask whatever you want to know. Then youll be able to sleep better knowing they are updated and you are ok.

Hi from-

IMO...if you are concerned enough to post here and ask...it warrants a call to YOUR doc.

Every pregnancy is different (and I have had a boatload of them)...lol

BUT...again...IF you felt compelled to ask us...ask your doc...

Better safe than sorry!

best luck!

It sounds like Braxton Hicks, but trying laying down on your left side for awhile. If you don't feel better, put a call into your OB. It could be pre-term labor and at just 30 weeks, you don't want to go into labor. I had preterm labor with my third starting at 32 weeks and was at L&D five times before he was actually born at 38 weeks.

Make sure you're drinking PLENTY of water and staying hydrated.

Best wishes!
