I cannot seem to drop a pound. I exercised and held my calories at 1500 a day for 3 months and NOTHING!!! Since then I have exercised but not as much as I use to...but I still hold my calories between 1500 and 1600 a day. I've had my thyroid checked and they said it was fine. Should I try diet pills? I need this weight off....it's seriously weighing me down and I HATE it! Please help me!!!!

That's too many calories a day. WW has almost all women at 29 points a day, and 1 point is approximately equal to 40 calories. That's only 1160 calories a day.

This is a healthy, efficient, & effective way to lose weight.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases: Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water.... interesting
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minutes
3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/ reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure - 30 days
2. Gastric - 10 days
3. Diabetes - 30 days
4. Constipation - 10 days
5. Cancer - 180 days
6. TB - 90 days
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times. It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active. This makes sense... the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals… not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain... For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

You need calories, they provide you with the energy to function. If you take the advice to drastically cut down your calories, you will be depriving yourself of your "gasoline." Your car won't run on empty, and neither will you!! Take a look at more than the number of calories: what is the QUALITY, versus the QUANTITY, of food that you eat?
-Cut out the fake foods, the frozen dinners, the Snackwells, the low-fat processed stuff.
-Read the ingredients. If there are words that you can't pronounce in the ingredient list, don't eat it.
-If there's some freakishly long expiration date on a food, don't eat it (what kinds of chemicals do you think it takes to make a food okay to eat until 2015?)
-next time you're at the grocery store, pick out one new veggie that you've never tried before. Challenge yourself to find a yummy recipe online. Repeat as your budget allows. Increase your vegetable intake by increasing the number of veggies you love.
-Curtail your going out to eat for the time being. You know why restaurant food tastes so good? One word: butter.
-When you say you have exercised, what do you mean? Are you going through the motions, or are you in it heart and soul?
-swimming, the elliptical, and rowing are the only aerobic exercises that are truly "all-over" workouts.
-are you doing weight training? By building muscle, you are investing in the bank of calorie-burning. If you gain muscle mass, you will burn more calories every minute of every day, even if you're sitting on the sofa watching TV.
-consider trying yoga, the benefits are myriad.
-at my gym there's a big poster that defines fitness as an amalgam of four things: aerobic fitness, strong muscles, nutrition, and flexibility.
-can you afford a session with a personal trainer and/or nutritionist? The first thing a nutritionist will recommend is that you keep a food diary. If you are not already doing so, I think it's a great idea. It really helps you identify your personal weak points and "cheats."
-diet pills are poison and provide no long-term benefit. If they worked, everyone would be at exactly the weight they wanted to be.
-There is no "secret" and no fast fix. It's a committment to a healthier life for you and your family that provides the day to day motivation to improve your well-being.
Good luck!

NO PILLS!!!!
This happened to me after my 1st pregnancy at age 35. I was eating low calories and pushing my heavy jogging stroller 5 miles including 3 huge steep hills 3 times a week and not losing an ounce. I've always had to eat right and exercise (yoga, jogging, busy NYC walking lifestyle) to maintain "average" weight, so I was used to working hard, but I was stumped. I read an article about how important it is, especially for older ladies, to muscle train to burn fat. I was doing tons of cardio but no muscle training.

I got a trainer to teach me how to use weights and added that onto my cardio (swapped the stroller for the treadmill/elliptical after weights). The weight suddenly RAPIDLY fell off with 3 workouts per week. Literally, after a full year of not losing anything, I shed 40 pounds in like 3 months once I started muscle training with cardio. I lost weight right away this way after the next 2 pregnancies as well. Now that the weight is off, I can do 2-3 normal workouts per week-even just Zumba or yoga, and I can maintain.

Also, the QUALITY of your food matters most of all. You need to be eating NATURAL FOOD inclusive of HEALTHY multi grain carbs AND natural fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts etc. You need to nourish your body to give it optimal power to burn unwanted fat. Don't go hungry. A low nutrient, low fat diet saps your energy and all of your vital systems, and slows your metabolism.

Think of what your body NEEDS, not what you should be avoiding. If you eat 3-4 healthy 300/400 calorie meals (always including protein, non fat yogurt, non fat cheese, buts, chicken, fish, etc) per day with healthy snacks of 100/200 calories spaced no more than 3 hours apart, you will feed the systems that give you great health, your metabolism will boost, and your work outs will work for you. I have ALWAYS eaten very healthily, but even I found ways to improve the quality of my diet when faced with the difficult weight loss. Analyze what you eat, and make sure there is powerful natural food there and lots of veggies, fruit and water. Don't eat late at night, and get lots of sleep (not easy, I know).

Hang in there, don't give up!

How do your clothes fit? Muscle weights more than fat. If you're building muscle you didn't have before you may not be seeing the numbers going down but you're doing something.
My weight hasn't been going much of anywhere for a while but my pants are getting looser and looser because I'm building more muscle tone and strengthening my muscles. I have more stamina than I have had in a long time. We just recently had our yearly vacation and before I used to feel all the walking and standing and stress on my body each and every night when I got into bed. It always took me a couple days after the vacation to feel back to full. But this year it was nothing to me. I felt great. Minimal aches, even in my arms from carrying my 2 year old a lot (she just didn't want to be in her stroller much and couldn't walk all the time and as much as the rest of us.)
Don't dwell on the numbers on the scale as much as the fit of your clothes & your energy levels.

I'd say that 1500-1600 cal/day is too much. You probably consuming more than you are burning. It is quite impossible to count your calories correctly. You need to drop it down to about 1200-1300 max and cut as many carbs as you can. Do not focus on exercise as much as on your diet. Exercise matters very little. Good luck. I just lost 20 lb on low carb diet. LOW carb, like less than 20 gm of carb per day.

Do you know what your thyroid numbers were? If has been 3 months I would ask for a thyroid retest, if you are really eating low cal you should be losing.

I had extreme difficulty losing weight with a "borderline" thyroid problem and a "minimal" goiter. Basically I need my TSH below 2 mIU/L to lose weight.

Most "normal" people have a TSH between 1-2 mIU/L. However some docs won't treat unless your TSH is above 5, 6, or even 10 even though the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists recently reccomended that docs should consider treatment with a TSH above 3.0 mIU/L.

For Kim O, 1160 calories a day is too little. Our bodies need a little more so our organs are working correctly. On Weight Watchers, fruits and most veggies are counted as zero so that's built into the plan and would work out to more total calories.

My health club offers a Resting Metabolism test to learn how many calories your body needs each day to exist. It's different for everyone so that might be something to look into.

I'd suggest signing up for WW and maybe speaking with your doctor? Also, you haven't mentioned how much weight you want to lose...maybe you're already where your body wants to be if it's "normal"?

Are you exercising withing your fat burning heart rate zone? I used to have the same problem because I was working out TOO hard! Then I realized I just needed to do moderate exercise in my fat burning zone (you can look up your target heart rate online or ask any personal trainer), and do some weight training to build muscle, and you should loose the weight. The other key is consistency, daily moderate exercise for at least 30 minutes a day or ideally 60 minutes a day (6-7 days/week) and make sure to eat healthy food (lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, healthy proteins, and tons of water!) and you will see results. Be patient and stick with the healthy lifestyle! No pills, they will wack out your body and they will give you a false sense of loosing weight without doing it the right way, and even if they help at first you will always gain it back. So stick with a healthy lifestyle and truly be good to your body! I've had three babies and I loose the weight each time by mostly walking (briskly) outside or on the treadmill. You can do it! Good luck!

I got stuck with weight loss until I hired a personal trainer and started lifting weights. It isn't as expensive as you think. I found one at Fitness 19 and I know pay 20 for an hour. It was easy to cut back on other things because losing weight became really important to me. I PROMISE you will lose more when you start a weight routine.

Make sure you eat 5-9 fruits and vegetables per day. Make them raw in the beginning. A green smoothie is a good way to do this.
Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, then do 10 minutes of exercise. Never skip breakfast.
Cut out sugar and processed foods. Make sure your protein sources are lean.
I don't focus on calories. If you eat a healthful diet, you won't need to. Losing weight by cutting calories or using diet pills causes muscle loss. You are also likely to gain the weight loss that way back and more.

The only thing that has really worked for me is the WW plan. I know people go back and forth with so many diets but this is really a life style change. Lots of water ( 8 glasses a day ) 5 to 6 groups of veg and fruit a day. Cup size portions of meat, pot, veggies, or 1/2 sandwhich or 1/2 a meal served in a rest. etc..... Two small portions of milk products and exersise.

All I can think is that your not burning off the amount of calorie intake. If you drop to 1300 calories and then excersise your routine, it may help or work out hard to get off more calories. That is how I believe you reset your matabolism ( SP? ) I am not an expert of coarse, so I could be surely wrong...but I would think you need to burn off more then you chew.
So chew less or burn more. Change your excersise each time. Weight type stuff then the other day cardio . Walk, swim, hike, gym stuff . Do different things each time.

It is a forever daily struggle ........... I understand it takes a lot of work each day to get some routine and make time for a healthy lifestyle. But you can do it. FInd a buddie or join a meeting at WW and they will help you keep on track and support you as you go.
