The body shop - none of their products are tested on animals
Good Luck and good for you for trying to help out with the fight against animal cruelty
Hello! I recently did a research paper on animal cruelty and found our just how poorly animals are treated. So along with cutting out most meat from my diet I'm trying to find everyday products that weren't tested on animals. As it turns out, all of my favorite ones are not animal friendly. I started looking at different products on the shelves at whatever store i'm randomly in and I'm finding it difficult to find animal friendly products. Help! I'm mostly looking for hair and makeup, but whatever other products you like would be great!

And I love the St. Ives facial cleansers.
Aveda products -- hair and makeup
LUSH LUSH LUSH...... I am a fanatic. its a company based outta canada they hand make all their own product. they are a vegan mainly store. go to www.lush.com...select usa of course. they dont carry makeup that i am awre of yet but, hereis a list of my all time favorites....blue sky...its an exflolating scrub, karma scrub, karma powder, hippie pits deodorant, jungle hair conditioner. any of their shampoos. any of their face product. rub rub rub. they have these robot bath bombs for kids that are lavebder and chamomile...i could keep going i have tried just about everything.
look into it...i have found its cheaper to order online then in store. they charge by the lbs. at store. when i ordered online everything was at cost and i think iwas given alot more that way. rather then paying by the lbs. but if you havent treid it you should locate a store if there isone close go in and just go nuts. they let you try everything before you buy it.
I know i am a nerd but i also know how amazing their stuff is.

For major brands, I know that Aussie isn't tested on animals, but if you look in the "organic" section either at Walmart, or go to a place like Whole Foods, most of those aren't tested on animals. By now, most ingredients have already been tested on animals. We know that putting alcohol in an eye hurts, so why do they need to keep testing that?!?!
For makeup, I know that Whole Foods also has a beauty section.
smashbox is a vegan friendly make up brand ... be prepared to spend a decent amount of money on your make up products if you are going this route 100% just a fair heads up ... I am not fond of smashbox it makes my skin red, blochy and break out but I know many who it works for.

Origins. Its a little pricey but you can get everything you need- makeup, body & bath stuff, fragrance oils, and facial cleansers and moisturizers. They also give free sample of products when asked, so you can try them out for a day or two and decide if you like it. I used to work for them, great company to work for and they strongly believe in no animal testing. Its an estee lauder company- that's also something you want to look into. Sometimes the company itself may not be testing on animals, but the larger company that owns them does. Its very sneaky how they do it sometimes. Example- People love aveeno for their kids, they are owned by Johnson and Johnson, a division of SC johnson and they test on animals.
If you have any kind of health food store (from Wild Oats to a local co-op) near you, they will carry a variety of cruelty-free products. Sunflower usually has the biggest selection of cruelty free make-up.
p.s. You can also shop on-line. There are folks on etsy who make skin care and make-up.
I second the Aveda recommendation- their hair and body products are amazing, but I will forewarn you... very very expensive!
LUSH!! I use their products ONLY now, although, they do not make makeup products at this time. I don't wear makeup very often anyway, and still use my old stuff (at least until I run out, then I'll switch to an animal friendly one). I believe The Body Shop has cosmetics.
Anyhow, I LOVE Lush!!! Love! If you have a store in your area, please go stop in. Their employees are awesome and will spend all sorts of time explaining their products (and aren't on commission), and will give you a ton of free stuff. My friend and I are having a mom's pampering party and having our favorite Lush people to help. Note - not a direct sales party - a pampering party. =)
Shaklee's Enfuselle line -- there are nine patents on it.

I believe Aubry doesn't test EVER and BWC, beauty without cruelty..
I love www.passionatehomemaking.com and her ideas. I've been doing the coconut oil for conditioner and hair gel for my daughter and me for a while now and love it. I have the items on order for the shampoo. So much cheaper than ordering the things. All of her food is absolutely delicious, so I'm guessing the home and health stuff is just as good. BTW, the lotion bars and chapstick are great! My son takes bars to school with him and give him to his friends. Several moms have asked me for the recipes.
Paul Mitchell does not test on animals. They are a little pricey, and you have to buy them from a salon or salon professional, but they are great!
There are lots of companies that don't test - just look on the label and it will say so - You can find lots of option at places like Wholefoods/natural/health food stores. At the "regular" supermarkets - St. Ives doesn't test.
Now when a company says they don't test, keep in mind that the ingredients may have been tested at some time by another company, but that particular product wasn't tested. And most of the big companies like Proctor and Gamble, Lever, etc. continue to test.
There are many -go to Whole Foods or another natural foods or vegetarian store and look at their cosmetic section. Google it for a complete list.

Denise P. beat me to it! The PETA link is perfect for searching out both good (no animal testing) and bad (animal testing) companies. Congratulations on your choice!
Arbonne..never tested on animals and contain no animal by products.

Here is an article I ran across. It's from two british professional make up artists who started researching what makeup brands were tested on animals and that some of the statements on their websites aren't clear cut about it.

I learned that while many of the finished makeup products aren't tested on animals (so they don't consider that animal tested)...that many of the individual components (used to create the finished product) are.
Hope this helps in some way.
Mary Kay does no animal testing.
