Trying to Find a Tent for a Family of 5

I was wondering if any of you had any ideas for a nice dependable tent. I have been searching online and looking at reviews everything is so two sided. I would realisticly like a cabin style over a dome and I like the idea of the ones that come with the screened in section. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

we have always bought Coleman tents and loved them! Set up is very easy! We've tried other brands, but always have leaking/water issues - Eddie Bauer was the worst!! I'm currently in the market for a new tent and have been leaning towards the coleman cabin tent. will be reading other responses too!

I guess my response would depend on your answer to a couple questions...

Are you a fair weather camper or do you like camping in the spring and fall also... If you do Avoid tents with screening instead of fabric for large parts of the wall...

How long will you camp for... A weekend, or a week... If you want any room in your tent to move around go bigger than your needs...

Personally I do not like the tents with the screens attatched...We have a 10 person tent with 4 removable walls... Then we set up a screened gazebo right in front of the door (line up the doors). I do not and will never trust the "rain flys" they don't do anything to keep moisture out... So we throw a tarp over the whole shebang (tent and screen tent)and stake it down... In our tent we put a portapotty and put up one of the walls, we have a portable closet, and room for beds for 5, a dog, and extra space. But we camp for more than a week at a time with 3 young kids...

Why is it that I do not like the screen attatched? You pay a lot more for having it attatched... They are typically SMALL, and if they rip in an unfixable place you have to replace the whole tent... Its cheaper to replace a screentent often and spend that extra $ on a great tent...

We recently bought an Eureka tetragon tent and took it back the next morning... Even though the "rainfly" goes almost all the way to the ground the sides on 2 sides were screen... Any and every breeze came right thru. (and the zipper cover was ripped)

Buy what you like... Then set it up and try it out in your back yard... If you don't like it take it back... If you do, stay in it again... (kids will LOVE the trial period)

Look over EVERY inch of the tent inside and out... Even if its made by the best company it can still have flaws...

We have had some awesome tents we bought at walmart, and some bad ones... Just like we have had awesome tents from dunhams and bad ones...

Look at www.campmor.com. A few years back we purchased a Swiss Army tent, it's a 10 x 20 cabin. Early this year my mom purchased a cabin that is the same square footage, but is 12 x 18 for about $200. Neither one of them have the attached screened in section, however I believe that they did have some like that. You can get top of the line brands for really reasonable prices at Campmor. Good Luck!!

We got ours last year from sams and it is awesome. When you look at them you need to see. Because some come with seperators but you don't have to use them. I believe ares comes with a seperator but we don't use it. Make sure you get a matress for your sleeping bags you will have a better sleep.

I know nothing about tents but it might be worth your while to visit Cabella's down here in Dundee. They've got quite a variety.

We bought a Eureka tent last year and love it! It is one of the tetragon tents I can't remember the dimentions. A friend of mine has been using this brand for years and has never had a problem with them.
We are actually camping this weekend!
Good Luck, K.

We bought one a couple of years ago, can't even remember the brand, but it wasn't a name brand. It is a 4 room tent, and it works great because when you walk in there is a big square area, that we use for a "living" space, you can stand up in it and not touch any of the sides. then it has the 3 side rooms where we put the beds, one for us, one for the teen, and one for the little kids. It doesn't have a screened in room though. That would be nice. I was discouraged by the price of the cabin style ones, that's what I had wanted, but am happy since the only part that feels domed are the bedrooms.
