Trying to Avoid ANOTHER Picky Eater

Hello all...this is my first request. Hopefully you can help me out...I need encouragement I guess and some advice. I am a SAHM to a 3 1/2 year old and an 11 month old (he'll be a year Dec. 6). My first is SUCH a picky eater. We have such problems getting him to eat anything besides his 4 chosen things. It's horrible. With my youngest I have been trying very hard since we started him on solids to introduce him to many foods. He has always been a GREAT eater. He would eat anything I gave him...especially when meats started. For me this is completely new since my first decided on his own he'd be a vegetarian...ugh...until he started eating SOME chicken. Anyway, now he's starting to get very fussy about eating and I wanted to ask if this is normal at this age? Should I keep trying to give him all kinds of foods even if he's rejecting them? I really want to avoid a second picky eater. HELP...if you have any advice. Thanks everyone!!

What can I do next?

Picky eaters are so stressful, eh? My four year old was like that for sooo long. She would only eat four things too.....I'm sure your pediatrician will agree that as long as they are in the proper percentile then you shouldn't worry.
I on the other hand would get sick of making 2 seperate dinners every night, lol.
But then as soon as my daughter turned 4 it was like a switch went on.....she could do anything and eat anything because she is big now and she is 4, roflol....

I have read that a child has to be introduced to a food for at least 80 times before they know if they like it or not.
I would suggest putting one spoonful of food on the plate if he eats it then great....if not....not much is wasted.....good luck....K.

Hi,
The best thing I can think off is the way my mom handled all of us. She would cook once a day, and what ever she mad she would serve it to us. The whole family ate together the same dish. Of course there were things I didn’t like, but if I was hungry I ate them. She didn’t let us be picky, we couldn’t complain about the food or we would get the same predict from her of kids who didn’t have any food at all. But she did give us the option to request once in a while something we didn’t eat for a long time.
My cousin has a daughter who is a picky eater too. She also only eats chicken… but there is a funny story behind this tricky eater, every time we wanted her to eat a dish with beef in it we would call it chicken. She ate it! I think if you spend to much time with begging them to eat, they will spend the equal amount of energy resisting you.
Try it for a while to give them food and don’t pay attention if they eat it or not, trust me if they are hungry they will star to nibble on it, and eventually they will develop a taste for it. It worked for me!
Good luck,
A. R.
