Troy/Rochester Hills Neighborhood with Lots of Kids

We recently moved out of our home (which we lived in for a very short amount of time) which sold rather quickly. Hard to believe in this market. The neighborhood we moved from was wonderful…kids everywhere, beautiful homes, great neighbors, block parties etc. But, we didn't like the school district or the area. We are looking for the same great neighborhood but in Troy or Rochester Hills. Troy seems to have older familes with kids out of the house, but a better location. Rochester Hills seems to have the younger families with kids, but hard to get to. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Looking for advice on great family friendly subdivisions in either place.

What can I do next?

We live in Troy in the Emerald Lakes subdivision at Square Lake (19 Mile) and Rochester. There are 6 or 7 small lakes in the sub and it is a great community. Halloween party, Easter party, Fun Day (in August), etc. You didn't say what your budget is but there are some great bargains to be had - a 1300 square ft ranch on our lake went for 125K. Most are not that cheap but you can definitely find something around 200K or so.

We just moved to Troy in the Beach/Adams/Wattles area; the schools are great and depending on where you live, you could have the choice of sending your children to Troy or Birmingham. The sub is filled w/ kids, neighbors have an annual block party, and they even have a ladies bunko night! I have a three year old and an 8 month old and we're enjoying where we are at. We also looked at Rochester Hills but the commute was too far for my husband, but, its close enough to do fun stuff on the weekend.

Good luck!

How about Adams Ridge in Auburn Hills just N of South Boulevard and W of Adams so only 100 yards from Troy and Rochester Hills. Loads of kids, sidewalks, block parties etc. I wish we lived there but the kids have a load of friends from school - Auburn Elementary, Avondale schools there, and there is always a lot going on. Auburn Hills does loads of free stuff if you live there - hello Summer camp at only $15 PER WEEK for residents and free after school activities!!! I think houses there go for less than $200K but they are large....Good luck in your search
