Trick/ Party Dog?? Seeking Dog to Entertain at My Son's 1St Birthday....

I'm having a first birthday party for my son and will be inviting some friends with toddlers as well. I don't want to go overboard with party events, but I thought something like a dog that can do a few tricks would be so cool for the kids to watch (and cheaper for me than other forms of entertainment!) My son absolutely LOVES DOGS! (one of his first words has been "dog") so I know he'd love to see one do tricks. Of course it would have to be a kid-friendly dog, used to being around groups of kids, but it needn't be a "professional" or anything like that. I tried googling a few things with no success.

So, does anyone know of (or have) a well-behaved, kid-friendly dog who does tricks and would like to perform at a kid's birthday party?? :)

What can I do next?

Hmmm...I've never heard of hiring a preforming dog, but it's a cool idea! Maybe, you could call dog trainers in the area and see if they could use their dogs. I know summers are pretty slow for dog trainers. They might welcome the extra money and marketing for their skills. Here is a link to dog trainers in Dallas, that are really great.

Just an idea...
You can rent a dog costume and have someone dress up as the dog. The "doggie" can come out and do pictures with the kids and some songs.

You do have to be careful, though, with either a real dog or a costume dog because not all children like real dogs or the costume ones.

Dog City Training Center in Carrollton has dogs which go out to party, do dancing, demonstrations, etc. Their dogs are trained to be around children and pets. Here is their website http://www.dogcitytrainingcenter.com/ and their phone and email: P: 214-506-DCTC (3282)
E: ____@____.com a professional pet sitter, I recommend them for both training of dogs and for parties. Many of these dogs are also used on television, ability training, as well as competitions like fly ball.

Good luck!

I like the idea of someone dressing up as a dog as most would not allow their dogs to be around a group of toddlers as the kids are probably not trained well enough at that age to treat the dog respectfully. Many rescues will not even adopt to folks with young children. It is not fair to the dog. Good luck with the party!
