I would bring fruit or crackers. A lot of day care providers are going to appreciate that more than candy/cookies that are going to hype the children up.
My 15 month son is having a party at Daycare for Halloween. I love to bake and cook so I would really like to make something special. The thing is she has all toddlers and I know they are hard to please and I hate to make something that will get all messy and give her more of a clean up. I was thinking about doing little gift bags.?? Or cookies?
Thanks everybody! I think I will just bring in some of his favorite store bought treats and play it safe

K.,
I would stick to the gift bags...you could always put a little sweet treat in the bag along with some other tangible goodies. Try the dollar store, they actually have good stuff and lots of it comes in quantities, and its affordable. Chances are the provider or other mothers/fathers will bring something sweet for them to eat.
I also like the rice krispie idea someone suggested...put them in a little plastic bag along with the toy/s.
That was nice of you to think about a messy treat that would make more clean-up.
cookies or jello jigglers are good and cheap...rice crispy teats are good too..A.
One of the most popular treats I made for my kids' Halloween/Fall parties have been little pumpkin sandwiches. Take 2 slices of bread, place a piece of cheese or whatever filling you want in between and cookie cut the stack. You have little pumpkin sandwiches. Of course, if you like to cook you could make some orange colored bread. I know that sounds icky, but kids love that kind of stuff! I've actually made them for other holidays too. Just pick the cookie cutter and go!
Good Luck
My daughter also has to take a treat and we are making mummy pretzels. You dip the pretzel about 1/2 way in chocolate then you drizzle white frosting over that(make sure some of the choc. shows so that it looks like mummy dressing) then you put 2 mini m&m's for eyes. Quick, easy and fun! Go to brightideas.com and they have alot of ideas for all holidays.
As Preschool teacher on sabatical, who worrked for a child care center you need to check with the director before you decided to bring in a homemade treat for you childs class. I know there are some day care liscensing issues with parents brimgign in homemade treats. With that being said if you want to bring in goody bags filled with store boaght treats that is fine.
I have always bought a toy kinda treat like whistles or stickers, or some kind of trinkets that you don't eat and are related to the holiday or theme of the party. As a mom I get really sick of candy and sugary treats. Party stores have cute stuff in larger quanitites like baggies full of little trinkets. Gift bags are cute. If you really have a edge to bake I would do cookies. I worked as a assistant at a inhome daycare and we did cupcakes on birthdays and it was MESSY!
I have done shaped sugar cookies with vanilla frosting. In the shape of dinosaurs, race cars, etc. You can find some shapes that are smaller, toddler sized.
For my toddler twins, they love vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting. I make jumbo cupcakes for the older kids and regular sized (they're pretty small really), for the younger ones. Daycares have approved these, because they're not that messy. Schools just really frown upon chocolate and colored frostings, they get pretty harried with all the cleanup. If a child in the class has an egg allergy you can make eggless cupcakes too. Just look up egg-free cake on the internet and you'll find some wonderful recipes.
How about rice crispie treats? You can use cookie cutters to cut out halloween shapes. (And you can keep the little "shniblets" left over for your family.)
I would first check with your daycare. My daycare does not allow any baked goods to be brought in due to kids with food allergies. They only allow store bought treats with the ingredients included in case a child has a reaction. I know it seems silly but if I had a child with allergies, I would certainly appreciate it.
I would suggest the mini cupcakes, goody bags to take home, or the mini cookies.
If it is a center, chances are it must be store bought. If it is a home, chances are homemade is fine. I would check first and also check about allergies. As a home daycare provider myself, I really prefer when parents bring in prizes instead of treats. Kids get so much sugar around Halloween, other things are more appreciated. Stickers, bouncy balls, things like that, would be fun for the kids. I think it is great you are wanting to do that!
Should you decide to make cookies this time around or some other time - this is one of my all-time favorite recipes that your son can help with (mixing, cutting out, frosting, clean up):
Cookies
Ingredients:
3/4 C Butter (softened)
1/2 C Sugar
1/2 B Brown Sugar
1 Egg
1-1/3 C Quick Oatmal
1 Tsp Vanilla
1-2/3 C Flour
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
Dash of Salt
•Cream: Butter, Sugars, Egg
•Add: blance of ingredients
•Roll out dough fairly thin & cut with desired cookie cutter shapes
*may refrigerate dough for 30 minutes first so not too sticky
•Bake: 350º for 5-7 minutes until slightly browned
•Frost when cooled
•Store in airtight container (cookies will soften from frosting)
Frosting
Ingredients:
2 C Powdered Sugar
1/3 C Butter (melted)
1/2 Tsp Vanilla
2-3 Tbls Milk
•Mix: Powdered Sugar, Butter, Vanilla, Milk
•Add: Food coloring to create desired color
I would check with the daycare first. I know with my daycare they only allow store bought goodies for liability purposes. I would hate to have you go out of your way to do something special and not be able to give them out. I know schools also do not allow homebaked goodies. They say it has to do with health & sanitation rules with the state. So if they are licensed with the county or state I would check it out .
I would check with the day care. I know that my son's preschool only allows bought items and then there are the allergies...peanut, strawberries. They may also have special requirements in regards to giftbags. Good luck.

watch out for allergies...make sure none of the kids have allergies :)
Hi K.,
I am a daycare provider and I am trying to plan a Halloween party as well. I decided I am going to put togather a grab bag, trying to be inexpensive, putting in pencils and stickers. Also those mini notebooks. The kids love to color and have thier own notbooks.
We are also going to make "dirt" cupcakes. I might get them already made, white cupcakes and choclate frosting then u cross 2 gummy worms on top and top that with crushed choclate cookies, makes it looks like works coming up from the ground. I thought this would be a simple task for all age children to complete.
I am doing peanut butter ritz spiders. You take peanut butter between two ritz crackers, put pretzel sticks on as legs and find something for eyes!! I figure the kids are going to get enough sweet treats they may want something else.
If you look at www.kraftsfoods.com and they have lots of simple halloween treat options!
