I wax mine about twice a year and that seems to do the trick. Before I started waxing it I used the Jolen Cream Bleach and that worked too. I don't have a very heavy mustache, but the hair is dark. I would stay away from shaving!
HI everyone!
I'd like to know what you do to your "mustache" to either get rid of it or lighten it. Do you wax it, lighten it or shave it?
If you treat it yourself, would you please share what products you use? If you shave it, would you please share what type of razor and brand you use please?
Thank you!
Thank you for those of you who have already replied!
I forgot to mention that my hairdresser said it's best not to wax the "mustache" because it usually comes back thicker.
My mustache is not real dark, but am still interested in what worked for you.

If you have dark hair, and light skin, you are a candidate for at home laser hair devices which are available at bed bath & beyond, and online. They don't promise permanent results, just significant reduction and thining and slower re-growth.
They are pricey, but well worth not having the inconvenience and expense of going to a salon for treatment.

I shave mine and pluck the chin hairs. As for it coming back thicker, that is an old wives' tale that is NOT true. Things done on the outside of the body have nothing to do with changing how your hair grows.
OH MY GOD!!!! I am so glad I am not the only one that shaves my "lady stache" lol
And it's covert, I have never told a soul. Not Even my husband.
I use the Sally Hansen brand of wax you buy at walgreens or wherever. You warm in in your hands, lay it on and rip it off. Works great. The lady at the store gave me a good tip-- take ibuprofen an hour before and put ice on right after, to prevent swelling. It's a little red but the next day, it looks perfect.
I just shave my facial hairs, and I use the same razor I use on my legs. I actually shave my face every day and my legs ... well that depends on how much time I have and whether or not I'm wearing pants.
You can shave, pluck, wax, whatever, and you won't change the color, texture or thickness of any hairs on your body. That's all determined by genetics.
If hairs do begin to grow in thicker or darker, it was always going to be the case.
Just do whatever works best for you.
Dont shave! It may not grow back thicker but it will have a blunt end and you will have a 5 o'clock shadow like men do, it will be all stubbly like your legs. Waxing is great! It pulls the hair out by the root and over time some of those roots die and don't grow back. Also, the hair takes longer to grow back since the root is gone. Ive been doing wax for 10 years and now I only have to do it once every 2 months and a lot of it doesn't come back at all.
I will get mine waxed sometimes. I hate spending the money because two, days later it is back. Sometimes I use Nair and sometimes I just shave it. It just seems to always be there! Can't wait to see other answers. Maybe someone has the answer to getting rid of it.
If I had a mustache I would laser it.
On some people, hairs do grow back thicker when you pluck them. Since I began plucking my chin hairs, they have become much thicker and darker.
Shaving will not make hair grow thicker, but plucking certainly can.

I'll add to the poster who recommends Jolene Bleach. You go by the directions and it works great. The hair is so soft and blonde.
I admitedly am afraid to try other methods in fear of it coming back in rough, like shaving. The Jolene works so well...
Electrology! The best thing ever. And no more stache!
Even have done my bikini line and under arms, as my hair is way too light for laser. Underarms were dark enough but cannot stand the burnt hair smell.
My daughter hates any hair above her lip--her hair is darker than mine. I bought her Nair for facial hair. She uses it once a week or so (more like a bit longer than a week). I have used it but my hair is really light anyway so you cannot see it. Never bothered before.
I would wax, which I do about once every 3 weeks with fine blonde hair and my lip. I generally can't see the hair unless I am in the sunlight. I have plucked a few times sitting outside in my car looking in the rear view mirror. It seems like it wouldn't matter if I can't even see it, but some people freak out. You can bleach between waxing because there does have to be some grow out time.
I'm planning on getting mine lasered off.
Wax every 3 weeks. Works great!
