Hi Moms!
Hope you can help. My son (23 mos.) had a climbing accident last October that caused a lesion to his lower cheek/upper chin. He had 18 stitches and has a pretty big red scar on his face. Fortunately he's okay and has no permanent damage. Is there something I can put on it to minimize the appearance of it? (Does Mederma really work?)What about exposure to the sun, do I have to keep his face out of the sun? Thank you for your help. Have a great day.
Bernie

Yes mederma worked for us. It reduced the appearance of a small scar my daughter had and and a very old scar I had.

Yes, mederma definitely helps. The kids version changes colors when you've rubbed it in enough. Also, be hypervigilant about sunscreen for at least a year after injury.

Protecting the scar from the sun is key. Our son has a scar on his face too and has very fair skin. The surgeon who did the cyst removal has insisted that we use sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days. We also make him wear a hat outside on sunny days as an extra protection.

Mederma is what my daughter's physical therapist recommended for her foot after an accident. Another great treatment is vitamin e oil, it helps skin heal.
