Stop eating nuts. Nuts are high in arginine and deplete the lysine in the body and then the canker sores show up.

If supplementing with lysine doesn't do it, then the other thing that works like a charm is Cataplex F perles from Standard Process. It's like $9 and either one or the other does it.

Hi J.,

L-Lysine can prevent them as well as heal them. It's an amino acid that your body is supposed to have but depletes because of illness or stress. An absorbable multivitamin will also speed up the healing process as well and can prevent them.

Melaleuca oil (high grade tea tree oil) used topically will heal as well. It works because it penetrates deep and gets the entire sore not just the top. If it is a true fever blister then ice will slow the virus' metabolism down and the breakout will not be as bad. All of these remedies work best if done as soon as you notice it's coming up.

God bless,

M.

my husband is a pharmacist and he makes me a "magic mouthwash" sometimes... i think it is benadryl, maalox, viscous lidocaine and maybe something else - the lidocaine is rx, so he calls my dentist or dr for an rx. maybe try that - it really helps with the pain when i feel one coming on.

fyi - canker sores are NOT related to the herpes virus - totally different animal.

Salt water was always my trick.
Burns like crazy at first, but afterwards, numbs and heals things quickly.

Canker sores are a herpes blister inside the mouth. I usually treat it with a rinse of hydrogen peroxide 3-4 times a day. It stings and tastes awful, but they go away faster. You might talk to your doctor about a valtrex prescription. Whenever I feel the very first tingle of a canker sore or a lip blister, I start taking it. Also L-lysine taken daily helps prevent them too. Stress will set them off, as will the smallest injury (like accidentally biting my cheek, or a visit to the dentist).

Hydrogen peroxide 2-3 times per day - letting the peroxide bubble up on the sore. Don't swallow, though.

For me they rear their ugly little heads when I am eating too much sugar or too stressed. Try Lactinex which is an over-the-counter tablet but you have to ask for it at the pharmacy area because it is refrigerated. Or yogurt.
Good luck.

I had a nasty one last week, and I found that swishing with Hydrogen Peroxide helped pretty quick, but I didn't try anything else.

Best wishes!

When I feel them coming on, I put a little of hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip and swab the area. I let it set there until I can no longer stand it, then rinse my mouth out. I also take an over the counter medicine called Lacintex. It is refridgerated so you have to ask the pharmacist. It is the worst tasting stuff but it helps. By doing these things, the cankor sore will never get very painful. Hope this helps!

Gargle with warm salt water if you can tolerate it. If not, use mouthwash twice per day to rinse. Then use L-lysine.
