I welcome all suggestion to make this a less stressful trip. It's the first flight for the toddler and first long flight for the baby. I need help in selecting an umbrella stroller mostly for my toddler son since I usually wear my baby girl in the Bjorn. Where we are going is not very stroller friendly anyways. . . .Also considering one of those standing platform that can be attached to single stroller. Please also give suggestions on that. Also looking for a headset for my toddler to wear on the plane for movies or simply reducing the noise. Thank you in advance for all your input:)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the detailed suggestions. I'm feeling a lot better about the trip now then before I posted the question. I've bought an umbrella stroller (Volo), a headset for my toddler (Kidz Gear Wired Headphones For Kids), toddler seat belt attachment (CARES Child Aviation Restraint System), travel bed for my 9 m.o. (KidCo PeaPod Portable Self-Inflating Travel Bed - Lime), travel "highchair" (My Little Seat Travel High Chair Coco Snow, Black and White, 6 Months), and some books on airplane travel for my toddler. Planning on getting some infant formula and bringing Potette with me as well. I will update you all on how the trip go afterward. Again, thank you all for the suggestions.

Oh goodness - good luck! I just returned this week from South Africa with my 13 month old, alone (for a funeral), and it was a 30 hour trip all in all. Needless to say I was exhausted :), BUT I got there and back and you will make it too!! When I was at my lowest points I reminded myself that I was only taking a plane journey, and wasn't fleeing flood conditions in Pakistan or something like that... it helped to have the perspective.

I found people were mostly pretty helpful and compassionate. Do you have a seat for your 8 month old as well, or are you taking her as a lap child?

I like my City Mini Baby Jogger because it's a one-handed 'pull up' but I didn't take it this time - I had wheels strapped to the car seat for my son, and carried him in the Ergo.

But I wanted to share www.jetwithkids.com with you - they have some nice tips, especially for older kids like your toddler.

Good luck!

Did you mean NINE year old, TWO year old and 8 MONTH old? I hope you did because at least you will have some help from your odest child and hopefully from family once you reach your destination.

You might contact your family and find out what methods they use getting their young ones around and perhaps they can bring appropriate strollers to meet you at the airport.

Blessings........

I bought these headphones from Amazon for my 2-year-old daughter when we recently took a plane trip: Kidz Gear Wired Headphones

They worked great. We downloaded some TV shows and movies onto our netbook, hooked her up to the headphones, and she was happy as a clam.

Can you bring someone with you to help?? When buying a stroller the most important thing to look at are the tires and the size of the seat if your child is big. I had a stroller with a platform that my kids loved but the tires were not so good. made it hard to push. Good luck and have a safe trip.
Also, since you are going to Asia you should check with you Dr on any immunizations you may need to update.

Are you going alone??? Is this the first time you take both kids oversea by yourself??? Where are you going exactly???

We are (me and my husband) currently planning a family vacation to Taiwan with my 4 years old and 6 months old baby. We often take the kids oversea to Taiwan to see my parents, maybe once or twice a year, especially with my 4 years old and this time is the first time with my 6 months old. In the pass few years with my 4 years old, I learned not to bring all the baby wipes, snacks or diapers. You can always get them over there, especially if you are going to big city... Just bring enough of them for the airplane... I would just bring an unbrella stroller for the older kid and carry the younger one in the front with you. That's what we're planning to do on our trip. Most of cities in Asia are double-stroller friendly and heavy to bring it with you anyway. But most definitely, I will suggest you to bring your own formula, and remember to bring extra. It happened with my older son when he was 9 months old, when we went back to Taiwan, we ran out of his formula and we had a hard time to find his brand of formula, unless your baby isn't picky like mine was, but still... We always bring our portable dvd player with us on the longer trip for him to watch his movies/shows. I brought him a toddler friendly headset to use with the dvd player which he loves it which I found it at Best Buy. It's a little pricier then the regular headset, since it's for kids, but I think it's worth it. With enough his favorite snacks/entertainments, he was more then happy to a good little boy. Hope this will help. Good luck. ^_^

Do you have questions mainly because it is a long trip or mainly because it is to Asia? If you have never been to Asia with young children before, you might want to consider the following...

Depending on the area to which you are traveling, there may not be diaper wipes available at the stores. The diapers over there (if they are availabe) are like the older kind here (shiny on the outside, not really stretchy) but they worked just fine for me.

If you are bottle feeding and your baby likes warm formula, either make sure the hotel provides something for boiling water in or bring your own. Otherwise, you will have to use cool bottled water (as in not hot tap water).

The formulas over there are a little different mixture than over here, so bring your own.

If you are in a busy city, be aware that crossing the street is not the same as here. Pedistrians do NOT have the right of way. SO, if you are worried about your two year old, I say, go for the "leash" with him. Who cares what others think. Make it easier for yourself. I got a cute one for my two year old that looked like a little school backpack. Everyone thought it was so cute to see a two year old with a backpack that they didn't give me any sideways looks about the leash.

I have a Lascal buggy board platform. It's great. Just make sure you get the right kind for your stroller. There are two models depending on how your stroller bars are designed. Do remember, though, that if the two year old is standing on the board and doesn't mind you very well, he is free to hop off and run around as he pleases.

Have fun.

Mother's all around the world have the same problems... how to get child from point a to point b. When travelling I've noticed that whatever is used locally is usually the best design for the area... whether that's a blowup wheel stroller in Seattle (crappy sidewalks or none at all, so you need the "shocks"), or the tall and narrow prams in N.Europe, or the shoulder slings, or x, y, z... the products sold locally work the best. IE, I'd wait on getting a stroller until you're where you're going in Asia if you're going to be in a populated area.

My mother and the oldest 3 of use used to fly back and forth to Japan 4 times a year (sometimes stopping off in Hawaii, sometimes not), and then from Japan bopped all over the pacific rim. 10+ hour plane trips are a lot harder on the PARENTS than on the children. Babies can be anywhere in the world pretty easy because everything is the same for them, toddlers have these giant seats (to them) and movies/toys, older kids have smaller seats but have movies and books. It's the parents that it's really hard on.

Where in Asia are you going? Russia, China, Korea, Japan, etc... or father West like Singapore, Malaysia, Burma, etc? Any advice about the trip beyond the plane needs a more specific destination, since many are *vastly* different from each other. Like SoCal vs Lousiana vs Maine different.
