Hi Moms. I'm in search of a few toys that will keep my very active little boys attention for more than 2 minutes at a time. The only thing so far that I've found that will do that is his Thomas the Train set. He loves this. Any mamas out there with active little 2-3 year old boys that have had success with certain toys and keeping their little one's interest? I'd love to know. Thanks!

What can I do next?

For mine it's playing outside, playing "with" him and any/all types of cars,
trains etc.
Basketballs, soccer balls, playing catch w/a mitt.

My son will be 2 in one week and is SOOOO busy! He loves the Fisher Price Little People farm and stand and play garage. I've noticed that he will play with them for significantly longer if I play with him too. I don't always play with him but I do sometimes and it helps! He also will play with his small basketball goal, like an outdoor toddler size one for a long time. He loves shooting baskets and even played with my nephew's nerf hoop for quite a while too.

for us it was any form of transportation. trains, cars, trucks, planes, boats, fire trucks, ambulances, anything with lights and sirens and of course balls. He likes the bigger ones, like Tonka size alot. Any and all kinds of balls.

My son is a very active 17 months old. We recently dug up our old Little People Main Street set and he played with this for 45 minutes today (granted, we were sitting with him.) The older sets have so many different components and things to explore, he was kept really busy

if he likes the train and probably building the tracks, what about the big leggos? blocks, my son never really liked anything until he was about 3 he was all over the place. i think if they are energetic little ones nothing will keep their attention for as long as you want for a while. give him a squirt bottle of water and a rag and ask him to clean like mommy that might givey you about 5-10 minutes, and a few puddles

My son was always really into cars and trucks at that age (at 4, he still loves them). Trains, too. He could spend a long time parking them and driving them around. A good toy garage can provide hours of fun.

Also, I sell Discovery Toys and we have some really fantastic products for toddlers and preschoolers. You can check them all out at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao For an active two year old, I recommend:

Castle Marbleworks
Block It
Working Trio

You can get your toys for free if you host a party. Let me know if you want more info.

Thanks!

My son loves to play with legos, he will sit for a while and build them up and knock them down etc. He also loves cars from the cars movie, I.e. Lighting McQueen. He has a little track that he races them on.

Try.... crumpling up some old newspaper. A lot of it.
Put it all in a big pile... in the corner of a room. Make a big pile of it.
In it, 'hide' little toys.
Then let them, go and dig through the pile.
Its fun.
But you have to be okay, with the mess.
Let them, tear up and crumple and dig through and toss the crumpled paper around. It is a fun activity.

But alas, boys this age, are like that. Busy. Attention spans at this age are not long.

Or get them building blocks.

He'll be 2.5 next month and loves his Mega Blox and the trucks they come with. He will build and rebuild over and over for over an hour, and drive them all around. The hard part is when it's time to put them up, sigh...

My DD loves her water/sand table! I resisted buying one for awhile but they are SO worth it! Also, a basketball hoop and ball have served us pretty well.

My son is 2 1/2 and really no single toy keeps his attention for long...
He likes trucks, trains, cars, anything with wheels. So he is good if I help him create scenarios for these cars etc. "Where are you going in your bus? Who is going with you? Is there traffic?" He creates lines of traffic on tables etc. and puts his stuffed animals in the bus...
One thing I've found is that he is fascinated by nature stuff...like an ant, you don't have to go crazy. WE find that stuff at the park. I found one awesome park that has slimy ponds etc. this is like a gold mine he would literally stay there all day to look at a turtle or find a spider web whatever...btw he's actually still kinda scared of it all but this is just enough adventure for him! :)
Good luck!
