Baby einstein are great learning toys. I suggest toys that help with hand eye coordination and memory.
Since Christmas is coming up I'm needing to buy stuff for my soon to be 18 mos. old son. What type of toys are good at this age? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I'm at a loss as well because mine will be 22 months old at Christmas but he's child number 4, so we already have EVERYTHING. So, with someone who already has everything, I'll just let you know what has been a big hit in our house for that age: Scoot along and/or push Firetruck, Bounce-n-Spin Zebra, Little People Garage, the cars, and people and animals etc. Wooden Blocks. You know, one of his favorite toys right now is something my PAT educator made with an empty soda bottle and filled it with beans and he shakes it all over the house - he loves the noise. So maybe child friendly Marroccas (sp?) or even a Rain Stick. Discovery Toys Giant Pegboard is very educational and grows with your child. All my kids have used it and pretty much all of them still do (no, I don't sell Disc. Toys). For this age, it helps with sorting, tower-building and can help with manipulatives with stringing them and so much more. Speaking of Manipulatives - those beads that push along wires are awesome - he plays with ours every day. Indoor little slide. Any baby board books - especially toucy-feely ones. (I used to sell Usborne Books and those are Awesome) Those stuffed animals - that if you squeeze his ear he says "Ear" and if you squeeze his hand his says, "Hand" and the other hand plays songs or sings the ABC's. Sesame Street Videos, Veggie Tales Movies, and Einstein Series Movies (we have them all but my favorite is "Baby Bach" and "Baby Mozart".) My older kids still watch those if they are on and they walk in the room - that it - they are watching it. LOL. Platic Picnic tables are cute and can be moved outdoors in the spring. Well, I can go on and on because I have no idea what I'm going to get this fourth child of mine for christmas when we have everything. One thing is for sure - there's no sense in getting a 'brain-dead' toy when you can get an 'Educational Toy'. And don't forget toys for the tub too. Like the others have said, don't be surprised if the box or wrap is more fun to play with than the gift! LOL. This will be an Awesome Christmas for you and your family!
ENJOY!

My son will be 18 months old December 5th, His big toy from Santa this year is going to be the Little Tikes space saving folding slide. He already has a ball pit with a ton of balls that he absolutely adores. He also likes playing with the chunky legos, although that requires lots of interaction with either me or his brother and sister, but its still lots of fun, I saw a set of those chunky legos that come in an over sized Dump Truck at walmart that looked fun. Alex really likes the chunky plastic cars that have the faces, not sure what brand they are but I have seen them at both walmart and Target. He loves Sesame Street dvds and also Backyardigans, and Wonderpets. The great thing about this age is you don't have to go crazy at Christmas, he will be happy with just about anything you get him and don't be too surprised if he is more interested in the boxes and wrapping paper.
Good Luck and happy shopping!

Building blocks, puzzles, toy instruments, nesting and sorting toys. You can also start introducing him to finger paints if you haven't done so yet.
If you can find one, I would get a bubble mower. It will be perfect going into spring and summer. My son didn't have one last year, but saw some other little guy with one at a soccer game and thought it was the best toy ever. And my husband doesn't even mow our yard, so it's not like he just saw his daddy do it.
As the mother of 2 boys, I would definitely say some type of push toy! My sons like the mowers--I would say the fisher price mower that makes noise when they push it is great. The bubble mowers don't work for very long, as they get clogged up w/bubble stuff unless you have the time to rinse it out and clean it up every time you use it. Also balls! Mine love to kick and chase them! Good luck!
Any kind of blocks or any kind of cars that make noise would be great. You really don't even need the car to make noise. You could get any kind of car. My son loves cars. You could even try to get one of those remote controlled cars. They make them for kids that age. My son has one and he loves it! You could even try getting books that make noise or any kind of books for that matter. My son loves the board books. They are sturdy and will survive an 18 month old! Really, you can't go wrong with toys that your son can push the button and make them go. They love cause and effect toys. Hope this helps, and happy shopping!
You might want to check out Discovery Toys. For that age group, i would suggest the Rough and Tough books, Choo choo chase, Brain train, the EZ-blocks or the Giant pegboard. try highlights.com they have lots of stuff for different age groups.
When my kids were little they had a little box - twice as big as a lunch box. It had magnetic alphabet letters in it and a chalkboard on top. It's not too early to work on the alphabet. You'll be surprised how quick he'll pick it up. And they loved carrying it around. Take the chalk out though. :)
If you want something that will totally grow with him and he will be completely fascinated with get him a Geotrax starter set! We got one for my son's first X-mas and he'll be 6 in April and STILL loves it! Fisher Price is notorious for their durable toys...my son has even tossed the trains about and they are still working after 5 years! They take a few more batteries initally than the Thomas ones but they last A LOT longer b/c Fisher Price built in an automatic turn off after XX amount of time...I've literally had batteries last for better than a year in the trains w/o any problems. I guarantee, BOTH you and your son will have a GRAND time playing with the trains for many many years to come!
You can always go to toysrus.com and they have ways you can search for different age kids.
