Too Soon for Teething??

My baby is 3 1/2 months old. He has been drooling A Lot, and he is usually a very calm boy and a big eater, but lately he has gotten fussy and finicky, 2-3 ounces here and there but still has his full 6 at bedtime. He has sucked on his fingers instead of his binky since he was about 2 months old but lately he gnaws at them more and chews on my shoulder or whatever is near his mouth. I am just wondering if he could be teething or is it too early yet?

What can I do next?

3 months is about the time my daughter started getting her teeth. She had at least 6 by 5 months, and all of them by 12. So, yes, this could be teething. I recommend Hyland's Teething Pills, these are amazing! And, things to chew on. We never had any luck with any actual chewy toys, but you might. Good luck! It will be hard, but you can do it mom!

My son had 4 at 4 months.
I've actually heard of some babies having been born with a few teeth.
Then there are some babies who don't get ANY teeth until nearly their first birthday.

There are all kinds of "normal" when it comes to this stuff. 3 1/2 months is not too soon for teething, at all. Ask your moms (yours and dad's) how old you were when you got your teeth. It might be interesting...

Oh and for teething.. someone recommended to me to dampen a washcloth and freeze it. It's easy to clean, soothing on the gums (cold, and chewy), and good for the gums as well (using a washcloth over your finger is a cheating way to brush the gums. ;)

Teething can start at 3 months.
You might see a tooth in the next few weeks.
Start thinking about how you'll bush his teeth - you'll need to as soon as they come in!

Both of my kids had their 1st tooth pop through right when they turned 4 months. So it is totally possible.

My first didn't get their first tooth until they were around 6 months. How surprised I was when my third cut her first tooth at only 4 months, if that. It was in that 3rd month she started showing all the teething signs. A friend of mine who's a nurse commented one day when she say her that it looked like she was teething.
So, it's not to early.
I would go out and get him some appropriate toys to teeth and chew on so he doesn't hurt his fingers. I had these wonderful necklaces called "Teething Bling". They looked like a nice piece of adult jewelry but the "stone" was made out of silicone and was in fact a teether. Never left the house without one on while my third was teething.

Nope, not too early at all. My son cut his first two teeth at 4 months old.

Look at his gums. In the front, most likely the bottom, are there any bumps or white spots? Does rubbing his gums firmly make him feel better?

Believe it or not, applying pressure on the spot where he's teething actually makes baby feel better. I don't remember exactly anymore, my two are 10, 7, and 30 week gestation, but it has to do with pressure and counter pressure.

Definitely possible. However, I will warn you that my first son had "pre-teething" from about 5 months on (drooling like mad, chomping lots), but never actually got a tooth until he was nearly 12 months! So it is possible, but don't hold your breath :)

My daughter's first tooth popped out at 4 months, and she was teething for weeks before. Not too soon.
