Although I cannot comment on Loyola, my son is recovering at this moment from having his tonsils/adenoid removed (surgery was 2/14). I took him to the center in his jammies so that we wouldn't have to fuss around changing clothes when we got back home, I turned on the humidifier in the room he was sleeping in before we left that day, I purchased a bed tray so that he could eat / color in bed for the first few days, I loaded up on popcicles (not red) and low sodium chicken noodle soup, I refrigerated the medicine we took home on the day of surgery. Keeping him comfortable really helped for the first few days.
He lived on pancakes, ice chips and popcicles from day 1-4. After day 4, we moved on to thicker things like pudding, yogurt, ice cream and slushies.
We followed this thru day 8 and on day 9 he went back to school.
The one complaint that has lasted longer than throat pain is the referred ear pain that comes along with this procedure. It is supposed to be brutal. I let him lay on a heating pad (on low) for about 10 minutes until the pain stops.
Ear pain still strikes him and we are on day 13 today.
Good luck --- also for the first 3 days don't skip pain meds -- we even set alarms overnight to wake him up to make sure he didn't skip a dose. I researched that idea and also on the day of surgery, the Dr. suggested we do that too.
Surgery was under 30 minutes.
Good Luck, J.
