Why am I havingtrouble training my little boy to toilet train. I know every child is different but my daughter seemed to get it and I have now been trying for 7 months. He has dry spells and then seem to go back. Help what can I do (He's 3 in April)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for taking the time to answer my question. I think I am going to leave him for a while and see how it goes. Hopefully between 3 and 4 he'll finally get it. Hopefully I will also become less stressed :0) x

Hi L.,
Little boys are harder to train than little girls...at least in my experience and that of my adult daughter. Try putting a few Cherrios in the toilet and have him try to aim and hit them.
Here's a useful site that might be helpful... http://www.babycenter.com/0_potty-training-boys_4684.bc
Good luck and blessings,

Average age for boys is 39 months. Though I'm not there yet with mine, I hear starting too early can cause it to take longer. I have friends who have said that once they stopped caring so much, one day their son just decided they were ready. Hang in there.

I think that probably the best thing to do is wait.

I understand that boys usually take longer than girls. I've only had girls, and they all potty trained around 2 years of age. I have a good friend that has only boys, and they all were trained around 3 1/2. From what I understand, it is a different sensation for boys, and that may be a reason it is more difficult for them to train.

All I know is, my good friend was worried when her boy was taking so long to train. She finally gave up. Then, a few months later, he was ready, and it was really easy. So I think that you probably should just wait it out. It will happen soon.

I would stop for a while. My sone who will be 4 in June did not potty train until we was close to 31/2. I started trying when he was 2 tried off and on for about 6 months, quit all togetherr until after he was 3 then one day we started again and he just got! Once he got it he has only had about 3 accidents!

Both of my boys were finally trained at 3 yrs and 3 months and not a second before! Very annoying - with my first son it was a control issue - he just refused to do it and the pediatrician told me to leave him alone and he would decide to do it on his own and guess what - he did. He decided one day he could potty like his friends and never had a pee pee accident again and had 2 poop accidents after he started peeing and then ever since everything has made it in the potty. My second son would pee some on the potty but never could get through the day so I just quit messing with him and just 2 weeks ago he decided to do it and same thing like a day later poop was going in the potty and he is getting up at night and peeing on his own. So I would just leave him alone and I promise one day he is just going to decide to do it. You are just torturing yourself trying to get him to do something he isn't ready to do.
