Toddler Won't Stay Asleep

Hi everyone. My daughter is 17 months old and has always been a good sleeper. Lately though, she wakes up at almost the same time every night (4 a.m.) and won't go back to sleep without a bottle. She eats a good dinner and has a bottle before bed (about 8 p.m.) so I don't think she's hungry, I think it's for comfort. Any suggestions on how to get her to stop doing this?

What can I do next?

I had a similiar problem with my 2 year old. What we did was go out with him and pick out a special stuff animal to replace the sippy cup. Then we put him to bed with both for a week and then made the cup disappear. Worked for us hope it works for you.

Slowly dilute the bottle until it is nothing but water, She will soon learn that it is not worth getting up for water.

Hi, I am the Grandma, of 4, the newest is 5 months. My Dughter-in-Law, since moveing the baby to the Crib, has camped out on the floor next to her. She (the Baby)was waking up at least four times a night since She is not near Mommy at night. It seems to be working, after a week and a half so she is movng back to her room. It is that Comfort thing. All things in Good Time!
God Bless

Just stop, bring her a little water in a sippy cup and tell her it's that or nothing. I can still hear the sad little voice as I close the door , "it dis or nuffin'"...but it worked.

my son max started doing that recently and the best thing we tried is cry it out. its hard but it works and he gets up in the am in a great mood.

if your not a fan of crying (who is) try putting another bottle in with her after shes asleep-i know that its not recomended but if it will help her back to sleep i dont see the harm just everynight put less and less milk in untill there isnt any and then hopefully she'll have weaned her self off needing that feeding.

hope this helped,
K.

I would not worry about it. My babies nursed "just" for comfort well past that age. Comfort is nice!

Around 18 months babies go through yet another growth spurt. She may just be needing the extra calories right now. It wont last forever, even though I'm sure you're tired. Hang in there!

I agree with Lisa and Paige. By this age she can be expected to be off the bottle completely anyway. Cups with water aren't all that exciting. Love her up, kiss her soundly and give her a sip and it's off to bed with her. You can give her comfort with a bottle.
