Toddler Weight Gain- High Calorie Foods

My son is 28 months old and weighs only about 26 lbs. I think he weighed this much at the 2 year check up and hasn't gained much weight after that. He used to be a VERY picky eater when he was about a year old. Oh he only ate pureed food(gerber, earths best) until he was a year old. Anything else he would choke and spit up.I thought his low weight was because he didn't eat well. But now , he eats very well(of course I have to still distract him with books, TV etc) He eats 4 meals a day(I tried giving just snacks after nap , but that doesn't fill him up , so I give him something filling. He drinks whole milk - finishes 2 sippy cups through the day and would drink more if I give him.I really think he eats well, but then there is not much weight gain. He is very tall for his age(people say he looks like a 3 year old and yes, he is as tall or taller than his 3 year old friends). He is super active , so I am guessing he burns off all that he eats and more! I am wondering if there are any high calorie foods that could give him? I do whole milk, butter, cheese .. anything else? I read somewhere to mix half n half with milk for underweight kids - anyone tried it? I am sad to see his ribs everytime he walks around without a shirt. Gosh, where does all the food go?
Anyone had this issue with your kids? And did you succeed in helping them gain weight? I know I shouldn't worry as long as he is active and healthy. But it's not easy..
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sounds like a reasonably healthy weight. I wouldn't try to fatten him up. He's not underweight enough to be eating tons of saturated fat (whole milk, half and half, lots of butter).

try foods with healthy fats, avacado, sunflower seeds, peanut butter, granola, yogurt etc.. they will be high in calorie, and most kids love it, my daughter does! Good luck, and don't worry too much, he sounds fine!

I wouldn't worry about it - I have one of those skinny ones too. My first was a chub - so cute to have a fat baby. My second came out skinny and I kept waiting for her to get her baby fat - never did. I just checked her babybook and she was 25 pounds at 2 and 27 pounds at 3. She's now 7 and is almost 45 pounds. She's tall and skinny, just last night my older daughter was commenting about her ribs and abs. She eats very healthy - her preferred snack is carrots. She often orders a salad at restaurants and even for breakfast. We laugh because when you offer her cake or something sweet her usual response is "nah". If she does have some its a bite or two, that's it.

Is your pediatrician concerned? My DD only weighs 31 lbs at 4 yrs old. She didn't gain much by 3 but the dr was not concerned as she was still growing and progressing.

I wouldn't just fatten him up. I would give him power foods - foods that will give him a lot of what he needs to grow and develop. You might offer additional snacks if he is hungry or let him have as much as he wants at a meal if he's played hard. My friend's son is long and lean like his dad and people get on her case, but her son isn't unhealthy. Just slender.

Okay, my 3 1/2 year old (will be 4 in Feb) still has not hit the 30 lb mark. As long as your son is growing SOME direction (ie, height as opposed to weight) DON'T WORRY. Some kids are just skinny. IT'S OKAY. Again, IMO (and that of my dr) as long as they are still growing taller, weight gain is not a big deal.

There is a few yogurts that have 15 grams or more of fat! Greek and okeios or something like that. Avocado is high in good fat. Cheese and whole milk is good too! Pedisure is good (kinda high in sugar).

My son has always been a picky eater. He is active. He is very lean and tall for his age and grows like a weed.
He is healthy.
He has good solid percentiles per his growth chart.
The Pediatrician is never concerned about it, nor are we.
And he is a grazer, but only eats little amounts until he is full. Which is the proper way to eat. He knows his body.
And he loves milk too.
And the Pediatrician has NO problem with him or the way he eats nor about his development.
We don't worry about it either.
Because, he is fine.
All kids have different physiques, and body types and shapes.
Even my daughter, although she is a good eater and not picky, she is very lean, and tall. Just like my Husband.
But Grandma, has a "problem" with my son... and the way he looks and eats. Because SHE says... he is not beefy.. like a boy should be.
What the heck is that?
Our Pediatrician says our son is FINE. AND he is healthy and growing fine. AND he DOES eat healthy.
No problem.

Then I have a friend, a guy, who is very lanky. He CANNOT gain weight even if he tries. It is just the way his body and metabolism is.
