Toddler/Water In Take

How are folks getting their 13/14 month old kids to drink water? I can't get my daughter to drink water from her sippy cup. She drinks out of my bottled water but not out of a cup. So, that's the only way to get her to drink it!

What can I do next?

My son liked water for a while and now I have to get creative to have him drink some. He doesn't like sippy cup so he will only drink out of a regular cup or a water bottle. Sometimes on a daily basis it depends on what he wants to drink out of. I think he is also getting bored of water so I have started to add some juice, more like half juice and half water and he will take some. Eventually I will add more water than juice and hopefully he will like water again. In a way I am glad he does't drink out of a sippy so I don't have to wean him off of it later but now I have to feed him his liquid since he won't use a sippy cup on his own.

there is a really great website www. weelicious.com she make here own foods and drink and one of my faves was kiddie mocktail it is l tablespoon honey or agave a teaspoon lime juice but lemon can be substituted adn saltzer water to feel the glass its a great alternative to juice and b/c of the saltzer water my tot start drinking more water. another thing we did with my now 2 1/2yo is put plan tap water in an old water bottle but make sure you change them out every so often.

i couldn't get either of my toddlers to drink water so i tried putting ice in their sippy cups just like mommy has in her glass. they loved shaking it around and hearing the ice rattle. i swear, 2 pieces of ice worked wonders for us!!

I agree, let her drink it that way if you want. You could also try straw cups or bottles too, they're a little less messy. Does she drink milk out of a sippy? If so then she'll eventually drink the water, I would think, but my kids both like the straw...it's exciting and they drink more! My 12 month old also really likes the sport tops on the reusable bottles. He gets it all over himself, but he loves to drink water!

Great that she is drinking it out of the water bottle! Maybe you can get her the small size ones for kids! I bought my kids the BPA Free No Spill Bottle caps from Babies R Us. You can also find them on Amazon.

i would get her some of those washable water bottles that don't have the chemical stuff in them and let her drink away. it really doesn't have to be in a cup. mom of 7 , R.

Can she drink out of a straw? I got this water bottle from Babies R Us. My daughter loved the bottle so much she drank all the water out of it almost immediately. My daughter doesn't really care too much for juice so it was easy to get her to drink water. Maybe you can cut out juices and just give water until she drinks it?

As long as she is having the right number of wet diapers, I wouldn't worry. What is wrong with her drinking out of your bottled water? You can even try a real cup. My son loves my seltzer water out of a straw....go figure.

Let her drink it out of the bottle! Create the habit however you need to. She'll be less picky later on...especially when she can understand "This is all we have, you can drink it or be thirsty". At that age, she is still learning cause and effect reasoning.

I agree w/ finding a spout for a regular water bottle and letting her have it that way (although it can get messy, it's just water. It'll dry). I leave a spill-proof cup of water (it has a straw) on the coffee table and let my dd carry it around the house and drink it whenever she wants it. My parents went to Denny's and got a cup that looks like a spaceship; it's clear and has a curly straw in it and my son loves it. Ice cubes in a regular cup are always exciting, too. Just try to make it fun for her; kids will eat/drink just about anything as long as it's fun!

My son drank only from a cup, not a sippy cup at one. The day care he was attending at that age gave them water in a cup only, never in thier sippy. Maybe you can try to introduce a small 3oz dixie cup w/ water to her. For my son milk came from a bottle and water from a dixie cup until 14/15 months old then once he was a pro with the cups everything came in one! Make drinking water fun, bet you it's only fun to drink a typically boring drink from the h2o bottle for her.

Mix water with her juice. I did that as long as I could. As they got older I would do 1/3 water and 2/3 juice and they never seemed to mind. You can also buy her her own reusable bottle so she has her 'own' water like a big girl. :o)

give your daughter her own "big girl" bottled water. You could probably find a bottle with a sports cap, and that will effectively act as a sippy bottle.
