Toddler That Keeps Getting Yeast Infections??

I have 31/2 year old little girl. This year she keeps getting yeast infections. She does run "hot" all the time so i do keep her in cotton shorts-but mostly dresses for good air flow. She gets a bath everyday-only because if i skip a day-she usually gets one. Seriously! So-i rarely use soap, and when i do it is Dove sensitive. I do not let her sit in the shapoo water.
I tried to get her the chewable vitamins that have the active ingriedient that is good -since she does not like any yogurt-not any form of it. She will not eat them.
I will say her eating habits are not good. She is very picky right now-so i make the best choices possible. She is not eating junk all day-i promise-hahaha. I understand sugar is a major cause -so i am aware of that.
She does take ballet once a week-but she is in her tights for no more then 2 hours.....sometimes i feel like it contributes to it. I am looking for some 100% cotton tights that are not thick winter tights!
It is just sad to me - breaks my heart. She is never "itchy"...it will just hurt she says-and then i check it out and that s what it is.
I wonder if i could find a pediatric nutrtionalist to help me out? If you have been through this-please share with me a light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks ladies (:

What can I do next?

I have boys (so not this exact problem), but for yeast we love Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) by Nutrabiotics - I get it at Whole Foods.

I started with 1-2 drops in orange juice (which masks the bitterness) and then work up from there as required (taking care to go slowly).

The other moms had good suggestions too, imho.

I'm not a health care provider of any type - this is just my "mom" opinion!

My daughter got the start of one when she was on too many antibiotics in a short period of time. The doctor had us give her vinegar baths 2-3 times a day for a week . you put a cup of white vinegar and warm water into a small type of bucket she can sit in , like a foot soak container . Put that in the tub and let her sit in it for 10 minutes. Also, we gave her Florastor Kids to put the good bacteria in her body. We put it in yoghurt but you since she won't eat yoghurt you may want to hide it in something else. It looks like sugar . Good luck to you :)

it works too !She will be feeling better in no time !

Have you tried crushing the chewable vitamins and sprinkling the powder (and mixing it) into her food? Possibly if she doesn't know it's in there she'll eat it.

I've had lots of problems with yeast infections and have to say with the precautions you're taking to prevent them they more than likely are being caused by her diet. If she eats peanut butter try eliminating it from her diet to see if that helps. Peanuts & peanut butter are notorious for having mold and causing yeast infections, unless it's guaranteed organic peanut butter or peanuts.

There's lots of other foods that yeast feeds on and can promote yeast growth and lead to an infection:

Hydrogenated oils
Sugars ~White sugar, Brown sugar, Syrups, Honey, Fructose
Sorbital ~ (I've seen this used in sugar-free lollipops for kids at my pediatrician's office)
Dried fruits and fruit juice
Vinegar and condiments containing vinegar (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salad dressing)
Starches/pastas
Refined carbohydrates
White flour & white bread
White rice
White potatoes
Grains
Yeast and yeast containing products
Mushrooms
Bread
Cider
Fruit skins
MSG (often extracted from autolyzed yeast extract or from wheat)
Yeast Extract

And, bananas have been found in recent studies to be one of the highest contributing fruits to Candida (yeast) and should be avoided altogether for those of us who are highly susceptible to yeast infections.

I hope some of this helps, I so feel for your daughter and hope you can find a way to stop her infections.

Get you some Monistat with the external cream. Does it look like a diaper rash? Sometimes you need the meds to heal it up. I would see a dr about the recurrence and see if there is something else you could do. I am racking my brain for some "voodoo" remedies as my family would say. I love nystatin powder, or even cornstarch would keep it dry and clear it up. Try goldbond too

I got them for awhile and my doctor told me to quit taking hot baths. Maybe you could take showers with her to try to help?

My nephew had thrush, also a yeast infection, that was unbeatable. After months of fighting it my sister tried gentian violet drops and acidophilus powder. They are kind of old home remedies but they worked. My daughter had thrush and I used them on her and cleared it right up. The gentian violet will completely freak you out when you put in kids mouth. It will look like a ball point pen exploded in their mouth. You should be able to get these from pharmacy, ask pharmacist, they keep them behind counter. Or go to natural type vitamin store.

Get some probiotic powder for kids and put some in her juice/water. She will never know it is there and she can get the same benefits from yogurt.

Get an over the counter yeast cream.
Yep the kind women use.
Get one with "Clotrimazole" in it.
That is what our Pediatrician says.
That is what I used when my daughter was a Toddler.
Only apply it, NOT with the applicator.
Apply it on the external area.

There are 3 day or 1 week types.

Ditto Tiara K.

You have to use a yeast cream, or it will NOT go away and will get worse. And worse.

Did you take her to the Doctor and actually get a diagnosis? Or are you self-diagnosing????

You need a medical confirmation and diagnosis, from the Pediatrician.

First of all, are they truly diagnosed yeast infections? My daughter is super sensitive down there (itchy sometimes, and sometimes she would say it stings when she pees). We had many trips to the doctor for UTI checks. The doctor explained that he felt there was not bad pee going over good skin but good pee going over super sensitive skin. We did 2 things: we have a peri-bottle that she uses every time she showers or baths in order to make sure all the soap is truly gone. Secondly she puts vaseline on her vagina nightly. Additionally, my daughter now pats herself dry and does not wipe after peeing. She is just super sensitive, all over as well, but especially down there. Finally, my daughter is a super picky eater and she drank PediaSure for years, a "forumala" for kids 1-10. After a few years of PediaSure we switched to Carnation Instant Breakfast (vanilla flavored in chocolate milk) since it is a lot cheaper. Both are loaded with vitamins (our doctor told us to stop the children's vitamins if she drank this) and also calcium and protein. There are many flavors to try. We did see the pediatric nutritionist who put her on PediaSure (available at grocery stores and walmart, etc.). Good luck, but mainly I would make sure they really are yeast infections before treating with Monistat type creams.
PS: I used to cut the crotch out of my tights since all that nylon would make me too sweaty. Maybe cut the crotch out and then wear a leotard with a little skirt to cover it? A friend of our has her daughter only wear skorts without underwear daily. Seems the super sensitive vagina is not an unusual problem.

yes there is a light at the end of the tunnel I fought them for a year and a half. What made mine quit getting them is to put him on a diabetic diet. sounds stupid but it did work. double your protien. wheat or whole grain bread only. brown rice wheat noodles no fruit(mine can eat canteloupe and bananas with no problem now) increase cheese. flour tortillas instead of bread. lots of veggies. the increase in protien made all the difference in the world. I got a diabetic fix it and forget it cook book and use it religously. if you make burritoes add beans. the more beans she eats the better.
