Toddler Sleep Patterns Are Getting Worse, and I'm Losing My Mind!!!

My daughter is almost 2. She has always been a good 10-12 hour sleeper. Recently, she's been staying up really late and waking up really early as in.... going to sleep at 1-1:30am and waking up at 5:30ish... I'm worn out! She seems to be fine because she gets a nap during the day, but I'm thinking about taking her nap away to see how that works for a few days. I could live with her waking up early if she were going to sleep early. I'm so confused on what to do. I'm soo exhausted that it's being a physical pain, as I get nauseated and throw up with lack of sleep. What should I do??!

What can I do next?

Dawn P hit the nail on the head regarding the nap - don't cut out the nap. It will not help and it will make things worse - being overtired is a vicious cycle. Talk to your pediatrician to rule out any medical reasons, but I would really just try and get her bedtime routine going early so that she is in bed by 6:30p or 7:00p and hopefully you can turn it around. Definitely check to see if she's cutting her molars as they are painful and take quite a long time to erupt and that pain definitely interrupts sleep patterns. If you can, try to nap while your daughter naps for a few days to catch up on your own sleep - sleep deprivation does make you feel awful, physically. Can anyone come over and watch her for a few hours while you sleep if it doesn't work out that you can nap while she naps? I'm so sorry. Good luck!

Has anything else changed in her life recently? Sometimes that will throw off the pattern. Otherwise, may just be the terrible twos have hit!! Keep her more active during the day, and cut her naps. Good luck and God Bless.

it may be a short term thing the not wanting sleep but cutting down on nap time may help. Also take her to the dr . There are actual health problems that 1 of the signs is less sleep. Some of them could be fatal

As for the person saying lock you child in her room beyond the fact it is ILLEGAL it is not the right response
I suggest till your pediatrician sees her you should do the following. Hopefully you have a small tv with cable you could put in her room. Put a child safety gate across the doorway and put the tv on cartoons. that should help some

I wouldn't recommend cutting out the nap. I would say do an early nap- around 11:30 am or when you notice her getting tired. Then, start the bedtime routine earlier that night and put her to bed early- like around 7:00 or 7:30 p.m. When kids get overtired, it starts a vicious cycle that is hard to break out of. Parents think that they need to cut out naps and such to make the kids sleepy, when the opposite is true. When they are overtired, they have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. If you cut out the nap, you are just aggravating the problem. Hopefully, letting her nap early (and for as long as she needs), and then an early bedtime will help catch up on the much needed sleep and get the sleep patterns back on track. If you think she is cutting teeth, you might want to look in her mouth to confirm it. Then give a little Tylenol if that is the case. Hopefully that will take the edge off enough for her to get asleep. Hope things get better soon!

please let me know what you find out. my daughter has just started doing that too, except it's about 2am when she finally goes to sleep and she's up at 630-730am. she only naps for like 2 hours in the afternoon(12-2).
