Toddler Pillow?

Does anyone else have a pillow for their kids? Ryan loves to sleep with a pillow. It was his idea... I never had one for him before, but he took the throw pillow off the chair in his room and wants it in his bed. It's fairly flat so I let him use it. I would like something that I can put a pillowcase on so I can wash it.

I've looked at Google but there are not many places that have them... it would definitely have to be ordered and pillowcases ordered as well. Just wondering if anyone else's little one uses a pillow and where you got it from.

Edited to add: Babies R Us??? I swear I looked there. I'll have to check again this afternoon. Probably too distracted by everything else in there I didn't even notice. Thanks so much... other ideas still welcome! :o)

So What Happened?

I went to Babies R Us and found a pillow, it comes with one white satin pillowcase. I went to Joann Fabrics and bought some soft blue fabric from the remnant rack for $3, I think I can get about 2-3 pillowcases out of it. My MIL is going to let me use her sewing machine to do it.

Thank you to all for your suggestions!

We got Rylee's from Michael's. It is one of their craft pillows, but it is the perfect size for a toddler.

yup, my two year old has a pillow, actually two, one is a small Cars pillow (toddler size just a small square)I bought it off ebay. He sometimes cuddles with the little pillow. Then i had a regular pillow that was older- it is pretty flat and I use a pillow case on that.

My son loves his. And started using one about 2-3 months ago. He is now 26 months old. We got ours at One step ahead - its a true toddler's pillow. They sell the pillow cases as well. Its super soft - its memory foam of some sort. And I am sure you child will love it too. You can even get their names/initials monogrammed on the pillow case as well. I just wish they came in other colors. YOU will not be disappointed in it -the quality is quite good.

Hello, Just a idea. You can purchase a pillow from the crafts department at walmart and make a case cover. Pillow case covers are very easy to make.Three lines of stitching and you can use an iron-on strip for the hem or hand stitch. This is very simple and best of all you can pick a design or theme that he likes. You would only need about 1/2 a yard of material. You will appreciate this being that it was made by you(keepsake). Good Luck

Titus has a really flat pillow that's regular size on his bed. He uses it sometimes.. but most of the time he sleeps down below it.

(We've decided to put him in The American Hertage Academy Preschool in Carrollton... it's a bit of a drive.. but definitely worth it. I just knew when I walked it that it was the right place!)

I'd say by two you should be good to have a pillow in their with your kiddo. I've had a pillow in my daughters bed for a while now. It is a full size pillow for several reasons!

We had to elevate my daughters bed from birth so she learned that elevated head concept early! It is a full size pillow so that it tucks in under the bumper and becomes more a part of the bed. Just recently did she learn how to pick it up and move it. But she's old enough now to do that... With a regular pillow case you're good! That's even better because it can also tuck in like a sheet. BUT it is simply on top of the bed. I don't want to confuse you here...

Yes you have to be careful of SIDS at all ages, but if you know your kiddo better then anyone and think it would help him sleep and he's old enough to know then you should be fine!

Hope this helps, its just my two cents. Better safe then sorry so do what you know is best for your child. :o) If it is a security issue, you may want to find something much smaller then a pillow in case he wants to start having it with him all the time... Again, just my two cents! :o)

All the best!!

we have been using the Taggies pillow for our toddlers and they seem to like having it to play with as well.
You can find them at The Nestingplace in Grapevine

i made my son's first pillow - just stuffing and some material stitched together really simply. it got worn out from the use it got! My mom actually used the same material and made him a newer pillow - and he uses it every day at preschool and at home. i'd suggest making on or having someone make one - that way it's fluffier and more to the size you want. :)

Pottery Barn Kids has the pillows and pillow cases for them in stock at their stores. Around $20 for both, I think?

T.,
I found a toddler pillow at a craft fair at LD Bell High School. It's actually a Christmas craft fair - I think it is usually the first weekend of December. I don't know if you want to wait that long but the lady who sells them has a "booth" in the cafeteria and sells pillows and fabulous pillow cases.
I'm actually planning on getting my youngest one a pillow there this year!
Good luck!

My MIL was always and advocate of baby pillows as all 4 of her kids loved them, so both my kids have them. I wasn't convinced and didn't put them in their beds until I was confident they could move away from them if they want. My daughter really took to hers, but my son isn't impressed yet. My pediatrician said they weren't necessary, but I figure there is no harm if they want one. We found them at Baby's 1st Furniture store in Houston, but I am sure some boutique shops in the metro area here would have them as well. (My MIL lives in Houston). My MIL also sews the pillowcases for us, so I haven't ordered those either.

I too am a stay at home mom to a 2 year old and she really wanted to start using a pillow too. I was concerned about her having a pillow in her bed, but was unable to find a toddler one. So, I just bought a $5 pillow from Wal-mart and a Dora pillowcase. She LOVES it and is so happy! : )
Good luck!

We used a travel pillow. Not the squishy ones with the spandex cover, but just a small pillow, kind of like what's on airplanes. Around 2 1/2 or so, we switched to a regular pillow.

Hi T.,

My name is D. and I am new to this message board, but I have my own business and I sew! I, too, am a stay at home mom. I am sure we could create something really sweet for your sweet two your old. I know Dana H, who responded to you previously. I could probably get a photo of hers and we could use that as a guide. This would give you the flexibility to pick a fabric and theme to his liking.

Let me know if you are still in need of a pillow. I would love to help out.
Thanks
D. K
