Sometimes my 17 month old will shake his head back and forth fast. Does anyone else's toddlers do this? Just curious if this is normal?

What can I do next?

This gave me a little chuckle because I remember my daughter and her little friend I babysat doing this and giggling. They would copy each other when one of them found something new and interesting to do. It didn't last long. You have to remember everything that seems odd or inane to us is new to them. They are thinking, "WOW that looks cool when I do that!", " Or, I almost fell over but didn't.! Let me try that again because you know, repetition is good." ;-) I think you have to take the whole child, you can't say this is indicative of a particular problem but something to keep in mind incase there are other pieces to a bigger puzzle.

I can't remember when my son did it, but it was a big hit for a while :) My friend's son just started doing it at 11mos.

If he does it many times, try to get a video and show the Dr, just in case it is something and you cant get him to do it in front of the Dr. You know how it is, they have a terrible cough and you take them to the Dr and they dont cough and the Dr thinks youre hearing things... so, try and get a tape of it to show, just in case.

Mine 15 month old does this, and then laughs. He obviously thinks it's quite funny...

My little guy, 20 months, will do that occasionally as well. He just started spinning around (for fun) just like I used to do when I was little. I think he likes getting dizzy... I asked the pediatrician about it during his last visit. He said that's pretty normal... I hope so! ;)

My son does the same thing when he is being really silly he will also run around like a crazy little man running so crazy that he of then falls but gets up and does it again. I find he does this type of stuff when he is tired I think it is his way of trying not to fall asleep? It is really funny and I don't think that there is anything wrong with it.

I would just write this down on a calendar, along with anything else you feel is odd and ask your pediatrician next time you are in for a check up.

My son is 4 now and was diagnosed with Autism at 2. He used to shake his head back and forth while looking at the green light on the smoke detector at night before bed but at no other time. He only occasionally does this now.

I wouldn't panic, just keep an eye on things.
