My oldest, Aleena, was in tears and complaining of an ear ache, is there anything we can do for her? Other than antibiotics, of course. It's only in one ear, if that matters. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I agree with Sonia's advice; my son had many ear infections when he was younger, once he was in childcare, and I found that they cleared up just as well without antibiotics. Ibuprofen (liquid motrin or advil) works very well for the pain. You could try a warm compress on the ear as well...

Put a few drops of warm garlic oil in her ear and put a piece of cotton in to keep the oil from running out. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and the warm oil is soothing. You can also give tylenol and motrin (alternate them and they work better).
Always worked for my boys and myself. You can also give her a decongestant, because sometimes ear pain is caused from the sinuses not draining properly instead of an actual ear infection.
Good Luck,
S.

Hi A.,

My name is also A. (but with "i"). I have earache myself and I bought in Publix pharmacy a homeopatic medication over-the-counter type that is really helping me. Just go to the pharmacist and ask for it. It's the only one available and it has for kids, also.

Hope it helps!!

I do agree with the homeopathic remedies, but please be sure to check this out with the pediatrician. Your Dr should be understanding to the situation of not wanting antibiotics unless necessary. My son had only 3 ear infections before he was 18 months old, but ended up with sterile fluid trapped behind his ear drum. He ended up having to have tubes in his ears for 2 years after we discoved the fluid. Just make sure it's not an infection, in which case I would not recommend "waiting it out" or using homeopathic remedies. They work great for other situations, but don't risk your childs hearing for fear of antibiotics

I usually give my daughter tylenol to help with the pain. I don't like to take her to the doctor right away b/c I'd rather her not have antibiotics if at all possible. Usually one or two doses of tylenol and she's fine. Hope this helps:)

Hi A.!

We use Ear Drops from Chamberlins (Garlic and Willow Bark ear oil, in children's section) and Hyland's earache tablets. They work well for us!!

A. when my 3yr old had an ear ache about a month ago I went to CVS and got ( SIMILASAN it is a homeopathic earache relief drops) it basically causes your own body to react natualy to the ear pain. It realy works good, however be careful because if your child needs meds for an infection this will not take an infection away, only the pain. If there is drainage or a fever or if after using this the pain dont go away then there is most likely an infection that will require medical attention. This is good if you are like me and dont want to jump to antibiotics if it is just cold or water got in the ear and so on. this can also be used with pain meds or antibiotics if needed like I said it is Homeopathic so it has no drug interaction or side affects. Good luck I hope its nothing.
