We just moved my 20 month old daughter to a toddler bed and I am a little apprehensive about it. Does anyone think this is too soon, or will she thrive? She sleeps very well in her crib-about 10-11 hours straight, but she is very tall and the crib seemed a little small for her. Please advise.

What can I do next?

Both my sons moved into twin beds by 2 years. Not a single problem. At first they were so excited that they jumped around but that night they slept great! It's a shock when they greet you in the morning though! I think starting with naps sounds great...I will have to move my youngest into a bed when he is less than a year and a half. I've heard that you should do it a little bit before the baby comes so the little one doesn't feel as though they are getting moved aside for the baby.

She'll be just fine! My son was about 14 months when we coverted his crib (3 in 1) into the toddler bed. we put up a guard on the open side. He loved it and thought he was a big boy like his brother. I think she'll do just fine at 20 months. You know they love to act grown!

I do not think that your daughter is to young. We moved my son into his own bed at 18 months. We did that because I was pregnant with my youngest son and wanted to use that crib. So I went and got a twin mattress and put it on the floor with pillows all around it, baby proof his room. I never had a problem, he slept really good. When he was use to the bed we eventually put the mattress on the frame part and haven't looked back since. I hope this helped.....

i think it depends on the kid.
we moved our son to a twin bed at a little over 2 years. he does great.our daughter is now at that same age..i couldn't imagine puting her in a toddler or twin bed..haha
she doesn't climb out or anything, but she is a pistol..
he didn't climb out either but i think we were ready.
neither of my kids are big so that wasn't a problem either. but i would say if she was uncomfotable it was probably a good move.
ya just never know how things are gonna go till ya make the move
does she seem excited?
hope it goes well.

we moved our son into a toddler bed at 14 mos (partially to prepare for lil' sis coming) and he did great. It took a couple night to really have it go smoothly only because it wasn't the same as before. Our daughter started sleeping in it at about 14 mos too. We did start with naps, then added nighttime.

I moved my daughter into a twin bed when she was about 17 months old and she did very well. Some might say that you will have a hard time getting her to stay in it all night, but we had no troubles with it. She actually slept better than when she was in a crib. The only bad thing is that your baby is growing up!! Good Luck

L.- We moved our 18 month old into a toddler bed with little problem. We started by doing Naps in there during the day.....after two weeks(with a few times of getting out and coming downstairs) he was good at taking naps in there. Then we added nighttime. He had no problem transitioning, but I made sure to put a gate across his doorway for a while to make sure he wouldn't come out and fall down the stairs.

Hi L.,
I have a daughter who turned two in October. We put her in a single bed when she was 20 months. We decided to do it because I was due with my second in August and didn't want her to feel we were pushing her out of her crib for her brother, so we did it then to give her time to get used to the bed and with plenty of time before her baby brother would use the crib. All this to say she did great! We attatched a rail to the side of the bed (although you have a toddler bed, so you may not need one) to keep her from falling. A few days before we made the switch we began telling her she was going to get to sleep in her "big girl" bed which was exciting to her. She never had a problem! She sleeps great and has never fallen off or been scared.
I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi my oldest son moved into his toddler bed at 18 months as became weary that he was in a cage and no longer wanted that. He demanded freedom, so if your littel one is too long for crib would be wise to put them in a toddler bed for sure. Have a nice day.

Hello......being a stay at home mom to 7 children ages 3-15, I have had a lot of experience with this issue. First of all, if your child is to tall to be comfortable in a crib, then a toddler bed would not make sense as it is the same in length.
I, with my first child, tried the toddler bed and found she slept better in our bed, so we got her a twin bed on a low frame and she did great after that.
All my kids, when they hit the point when they "looked" uncomfy in thier cribs, went into twin beds and did great.
None have fell out of bed as to hurt them selves, however, if this would be a concern, you can buy a safety net to place on the side of the bed this does not touch the wall.
Good luck.......and good "night"

We moved our daughter into a toddler bed at 13 months because her sister was a month and almost ready to start sleeping through the night. She did fine, although I did have some trouble with her getting out all the time. Eventually she learned that when it was time for bed, she needed to stay in it. Good luck!

Part of it depends on the child the children who roll around alot will do better in a crib for longer but most standerd size cribs and toddler beds are the same size so that dose not make a lot of difrence

If your daughter is getting too big for the crib I would deff. move her out of it. Some children take right to the toddler beds, some dont.
I moved my daughter to a toddler bed when she was 1 1/2 and I couldnt get her to stay in it. She would be coming into our bed halfway into the night. I even tried moving it into my room so she would feel safe being near us but she still would get out. Instead of putting her back into the crib I set up a twin size bed, and she has slept in it every night! I think the toddler bed was too low to the floor, she understood how easy it was to get out. With the big bed she knows how far away the floor is, but I used to lay pillows down anyway in case she did fall. She never has and Im getting a better nights sleep!

She will do just fine. I moved each one of my girls into their toddler bed at about 20 months. You will be amazed at how well she does with it. In fact she will feel like a big girl. That is what I told each one of my girls that it was a big girl bed and they loved the idea. It will be tough to get her to sleep in it the first couple weeks but just keep working with her. But she will do just great in the toddler bed at this age. Just make sure you move all her bed time stuff to the bed and make the transition easy for her and you will see how great she will do.

We had to move our son out of his toddler bed at 15 months. He kept climpbing out at night and sleeping on the floor under the crib. We went and got a toddler bed but he never used it except to play on. We ended up buying a twin size matress and putting it on the floor. Then when he got a little older we put it up on the frame. He still sleeps on the floor occassionally and he is 5. He said he feels safer by the floor. Good luck!
