I have a 2 year old daughter who loves other kids, but does not get too much interaction with kids her own age. My husband and i work and she satys with my grandmother during the day. I am having a hard time finding some activites for her to join that are on the weekends or after work and that don't cost a fortune.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all of your responses. I decided to sign her up at My Gym. Their hours are great and my daughter is able to play off some of her energy! I love that the classes are age specific and tailored to children her size. Thanks again to all who responded.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and I've been desperately trying to find her a playmate. She needs interaction with other children! Other than adults the only friend she has is her 5mth old brother. If you are interested in a playdate let me know ____@____.com , I live in SE Palm Bay.

she's two, right now she needs the interaction wity other kids, so maybe grandma can take her to parks when it's cool enough and even grandma can socialize and maybe meet someone she can set up play dates, or the playmobil, or even at the mall to run around. she needs to meet other kids, that's the bottom line. at the age of two she will most liukely not understand any of classes you sign her up as following instructions is difficult at her age
good luck

I have similar challenges. What I do is take her to the park, or the zoo, there are usually lots of kids to play with. If during the week your grandmother could get the the library, there are reading programs for children her age, where she could interact with other children. Just check with your local library to find out the days and times. I don't know if you have seen it, but there is this website, gocitykids.com, and they have a search engine on their site for age appropriate activities for children. They have activities list for the major city closest to you with a variety of price ranges. Hope that helps!

"My Gym" in Oviedo has weekend and evening hours and they aren't that expensive and not only will she get to play with other kids she will burn tons of energy before bedtime.

Hi L... I'm not sure where you live so this might not even apply.. but my Kindermusik program offers a once per month multi-age Saturday class (in the Fall and Spring sessions), so it's much less expensive than some classes....if you want more info just email ____@____.com and I'll send you Fall info. We offer classes in East Orlando /UCF / Oviedo areas.. (so this might not even work for you). Also My-Gym is great, though pricey. Librarys have Saturday storytimes. Check out Gocitykids.com also, they always have lots of events listed. Hope that all helps!!

Best,
H.

Dear L.,

I have gone through the same situation with my first daughter. I think you should at least take her to the play ground three times a week if possible. This way she could meet other kids and socialize. Also, a lot of public Libraries offer story time several times a week, and on weekends. Even finding a good daycare center, and having her go there once a week would be a good idea. You could also try swimming class in the YMCA depending on the prices that are available in your area. Unfortunately at the time I did not have any means of transportation, even public. Buy the time I was able to get a car she had already started school. Even though my daughter loved other kids, she had an extremely hard time learning how to communicate with other students when she first went to Pre-K at the age of four, and it took a great, dedicated, loving teacher with 17 years of experience to fix the problem. She is now eight, and doing very well :) with lots of good friends and a gifted mind ;) Seeing other kids is a must! I hope all goes well for you, and your 2 year old. Good Luck!:)

Hi L.,

Not sure where you are located, but Music Together is a wonderful program of research based and developmentally appropropriate music and movement activities for children birth through kindergarten and their parent or caregiver. Check out www.musictogether.com My location is in Fort Myers (True Music Studios), but there are Music Together locations all over the state of FL! There are free preview classes offered to check it out. Good Luck!

Check your local library for story times. Some have Saturday morning and weekday evening times for working parents. Free, great fun, and often some of the same families go every week.

sometimes the library has storytime on saturday. Check with them about hat. I am not sure if you live next to the beach, but this is a good place to get energy out. Check out meetup.com, for mommy groups in your area. We live in Daytona, so there are about 3 that I can choose to go to. How about the ymca, for swimming? I think I have exuasted the list I have. I know it's hard to find the right combination of kids. Good luck, Jen

Hi L.,

I'm a mom of a 14 month old little girl who is my world too! I also teach a really fun Mommie and Me class music and movememnt class. The whole family is welcome, dad, grandma, everyone! :) I teach classes on weekends on weekdays, but because of your work schedule weekends I think would fit best with your schedule. This is great way to socialize children and meet other moms with young children.

You can check out one of my classes. My email is ____@____.com and my website is www.peasinapodmusic.com.

I look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Luly

I'm not sure where you live but you could find a My-Gym program or something similar.
www.my-gym.com
You could try swimming lessons. Your local YMCA. Libraries. Art Classes for toddlers. music and motion classes. There are "daycamp" classes for two year olds through museums, animal centers, etc.
also try babyzone.com craigslist.org
I don't agree with the comment that your daughter will not understand classes because she's two. Your daughter is ripe for knowledge and interaction right now. My daughter totally "gets" the structure and a lot of the content of her classes. She totally looks forward to her classes and know which days she goes.
Even if you can't afford the classes on a continuous basis I would give it a try. The interaction would be great for her and you'll meet other parents with children your daughter's age. Other parents always have ideas. Good Luck to you.

Hi L.,

How about the Fountains at Tradition. It is free and a lot of fun. The kids get to run around in the water & they have a blast. I took my 2 boys for the first time last week (they are 7yrs old & almost 21 months). The little one was hesitant at first but then as soon as he saw the other kids in the water, he loved it and I couldn't tear him away. (In case you are not aware of the fountains, it is just an area where water shoots up from the ground in different spots. Umbrella covered tables & chairs surround the area. Restrooms are right there. Hrs are every day from 10am - 6pm. I realize that this isn't an organized type of activity for your daughter, however, it is something fun where she can be around other little kids & cool off at the same time. I like it because it has a similar effect as the beach without all of the sand! Also, Barnes & Noble as well as Borders bookstores in Jensen beach have story times for little ones on different days. You can check their websites for info.

Hope this helps! L.
