To Sell or Not to Sell- That Is the Question!!!

We have lots of boy clothes and just found out that our second (and likely our last child) is going to be a girl! We have been trying to figure out if we should wait and keep the boy clothes until we are 100% on wether or not we have another one or if we should just sell the stuff and get it over with. We could use the money and, while we do have some storage space in our unfinished side of the basement, we don't have a ton and I hate clutter.

We are so unsure what we want to do because the idea of paying for it all again is kinda frustrating, but the idea of hanging onto it for a couple more years and then doing it, doesn't really work either.

I have a family member who was told via ultrasound that she was having a girl. The dr said he had a pretty clear view and 99.9% a girl. Yeah well when she delivered out came a boy! I would hang on to the clothes untill baby gets here just in case.

Why not go through it and keep the clothes that are gender neutral? Sell the stuff that's overtly boy.

Babies don't know from gender when it comes to clothing. A onsie whether it's pink or blue works just as well. Keep the clothes and get rid of them as she out grows them. You won't have to buy a lot of new stuff and with every growth spurt you'll be getting rid of more of it. This will work up through toddler years. My amnio told us for sure our child was going to be a boy. Ultrasounds can be less reliable.

Do you have any friends who are expecting with a boy who might like to borrow your boy clothes? That would get them out of your hair for awhile, until you're fully certain you are done having kids! Just a thought!

I feel your pain as I was in the same situation and ended up having a boy after our daughter. I still have about 10 giant storage bins of her clothes in our attic that I have GOT to go through and sell/donate! Thanks for reminding me. :)

I'd say to sell it all and if you need boy's clothing in the future you can always hit up the consignment store for baby clothes. The consignment store always has a ton of baby stuff and since they aren't in most of it for very long it's always in great condition at a fraction of the cost.

Lend out or sell half and for the half you keep, get those space saving bags - the ones where you vacuum out the air - to cut down on the storage clutter.

If you know the baby is a girl then go ahead and keep was is neutral and donate/sell the rest and have fun shopping for your baby girl. Congrats

I vote sell it. Get the cash you could use now. Why store all that stuff for "if" and "someday"?

Definetly keep gender neutral stuff, PJs and some play clothes. My son is 2yrs older than my daughter (now 8 and 6) and when my son outgrows stuff, I always let my daughter go thru it and pick what she wants to keep for herself. We always keep jeans and some sweatshirts and some Tshirts for play clothes (she's kinda a tomboy when it comes to playing outside). We keep PJ's too and sometimes she picks out a Spiderman shirt to keep that she likes! Don't get me wrong, she wears dresses and girly stuff too. This winter she is wearing Spiderman show boots! and a purple and pink coat! She thinks it's cool!

I'd keep the gender-neutral things and sell the rest.

We sell our kids close - but then put that $ into THEIR piggy banks.

The way I look at it is by the time I were to get pregnant again and the chances of that baby being that specific gender and the kid being born in the same season and those totes sitting in my basement for that long isnt worth it. I rather get some $ now and give it back to my kids.

Congrats on baby tho

I'd go through and sell the stuff you didn't like or anything that didn't get worn, etc. Then hold onto the usable stuff until after baby gets here and you know for sure you need pink things :) I think the dr and ultrasound are usually right but I admit I always had boy and girl names picked out just in case!

In my experience, after my first, I realized I had a lot of things I didn't need/didn't use and then our second was a girl. Now as DD grows out of things I get rid of them because we don't plan to have another. But if things change - I would buy simple basics and stay on top of the laundry,LOL! Don't know if you were planning on selling at Once Upon A Child if there's one by you but you can also get some items there too, if you did end up having #3.

Congratulations and good luck!

This is what I did. Im a single mommy and dont know when I will have another child (not even in the thoughts right now, Have to find that certain someone first!). I held on to EVERYTHING he ever wore. Most of it was things that people had given me. So one day, he was over a year old. I decided that I was going to re-go through all of his clothes and sort them by sizes. I restriced each size to one small size diaper box. I donated the others to some of my single mommy friends since that is what was done for me. I kept the outfits that I LOVED on my son and some that were so cute. I donated the stuff that he never wore and things that are easy to get (simple blue onesies and that sort, socks, etc). I say go through and reduce and only keep a selection of clothes for if you have any more children! Good luck and CONGRATS!
