To Cut or Not to Cut....Bangs

This is kind of a silly question....My dd will be 3 in July. She has beautiful long (mid back when dry) curly hair. To this point she has had bangs which has not always laid well due to her curl. I have been attempting to let her bangs grow out, but they are at an awkaward length which is making me second guess my decision. Should I break down and cut them or wait it out and see how they grow.

What can I do next?

let them grow out! For that awkward stage you can use headbands to hold the bangs back, or pin the bangs back behind her ears with bobby pins or barrettes. Once they get past the inbetween stage, its so much easier for them to just tuck behind the ears or pull everything in a ponytail or french braid...

My daughter's bangs are at that obnoxious length now... We take a simple 'clicky' type barrette to them. Hopefully you'll understand my words in explanation of how.... take the 'bangs' portion, pull straight up, twist, lay on head, and clip the barrette just behind the 'twist'. I get tons of complements on how cute she looks when I do that and it keeps the bangs out of her eyes.

I vote wait.

Hi B.---If I've heard correctly, bangs are all the fashion right now. But, I think that because your daughter has curly hair, long bangs might be best for her. Did her bangs curl up on her when they were shorter? If they are longer, the curls will weigh down and I think more easily assimilated into whatever you do to her hair.

Get some headbands and barrettes for now. Good luck. D.

I would just let them grow. I had the same issue with my daughter...although she had just a little curl. Pin it up with some barrettes or a headband.

Sounds cute. Keep growing them out. Just get 2 bobby pins and pull just the very front of her bangs back and pin them with the bobby pins crossing over each other, which holds them in place. Thats what i did with my dd and my sis with her curly haired dd. I even do it myself if I am having a bad hair day. lol

Dear B.-

Grow them out...please...(I am speaking as a 'victim' of mom cut bangs).

My mom would 'trim'...and then try to 'straighten' with another 'trim'. Many pictures from pre K thru third grade show me with almost 'crew cut bangs' lol.

One time she even tried scotch tape across my bangs for an even trim...YITE!

I did find a nice mother's day card for her some years ago...On the front it said "I love you mom"...and on the inside it said "And I forgive you for cutting my bangs!"

Grow them out...
Just saying...

Give it a try. My 2 granddaughters have never had bangs and it is so nice to be able to see their beautiful little faces. Your daughter might really like wearing a headband or barrettes until they are all the way grown out. Have some fun with it. If you don't like the way it turns out, you can always cut them.

My second daughter had very curly hair when she was a baby. I never cut her hair, not even her bangs. I didn't care that her hair was uneven, her curls were beautiful and nobody ever commented that her hair was uneven. I'd say leave them alone for now because she is almost 3 and once you begin trimming them, you will have to upkeep them if you want the "style" to keep looking right. I didn't cut my daughter's hair until just before she started kindergarten and by that time, her hair was coming in straight.

Grow them out...girls love to have hair pulled back from face, whether just the front, or the whole thing in a ponytail. And how much easier to fix!

with a 3 yr old , I would get them cut.
They get in their eyes and then sticky hands push them out of the way and get gunk in them. then you put a barett in them and she pulls it out or it falls out and you've got hair in her eyes all over again. I would wait till she is older to grow them out.

I would say grow them out. In addition to head bands and barrettes, you can use the little clips/claw-type accessories. I'm sure there's a name for them- I'm having a mental lapse this morning. They tend to stay in curly or textured hair, better. (You know what I'm talking about, right??? LOL!) You can clip her bangs back - on top of her head or to the side. Very cute.

Good luck!!

WAIT!!!!! It has taken a year for my 6 year old's bangs to grow enough to not be awkward, but I am so glad. You can always cut them if they don't work long, but growing them out takes soooo long, so be strong and wait a bit longer. Do little side ponytails and buys some clips!!

Wait it out.

I grew out my oldest after they were cut, it was a pain for a little while, but best thing I ever did.

With my youngest, who has curly hair, I never cut her hair/bangs and it is so beautiful as well.

My lil gal was a walking mess one weekend when she was about 2,she walked into walls the chair tripped.I had it that weekend & cut her bangs myself (my mistake)I wanted her to see her hair was at awarkd length to begin with. When her hair finally grew out mid back at 3 I took her in for her first real cut she took off 6 inches layered but didn't do much with the bangs I didn't want bangs on her just a side swept cut that was in front of her hair so for I can pull all her hair back without it getting into her eys.For some reason I don't like hair in my girls faces it bugs me when they eat it is right there in their eyes their food it gets into their mouth just something about it but having bangs it is something you have to keep it up.I however will not let them have bangs till they are older & can help with their hair, thye want to fuss over getting it brushed & done up daily but I have to they have rats, tangles & it l;ooks cute when they do have their done up & just not down all over the place.

I say wait. When K's hair grew out it was so much easier to deal with. All the stray hairs were finally long enough to stay put in a ponytail and other hair styles.

It up to you, but this is how I look at it. If she will tolerate a hair clip to keep they out of her eyes then its fine to grow them. If not, keep them cut. Bangs make most girls look young, and usually when they're in middle school they start to want to look older and you see lots of them growing out the bangs. At that point its important to THEM, so they're willing to flip them out of their eyes or wear a clip to pin them back. My girls both have super fine AND thin hair, so clips just don't stay in, plus they rip them out very quickly after I put them in, so they'll be having bangs for quite a while. I just feel sorry for little girls running around with their long hair hanging in their faces. That's the whole point to bangs right, keep the hair out of their eyes. :)

Good luck!
