TMI Question

I am six months pregnant, my nipples have itched for a few weeks now but it was nothing too bad, now they burn a little and are sensitive to the touch. I have sort of a tingly feeling. They don't look any different and I am not leaking. This is my third pregnancy, my next appointment is at the beginning of Jan. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this and if I should be more concerned and give my doctor a call.

What can I do next?

I had the same happen to me but also did happen when I breast fed, my daughter had gotten thrush, just get Lansinoh Nipple Cream works great, also my aunt taught me something that worked for me but again its a TMI thing lol. She told me to clean out my nipples, you roll them between your fingers (softly of course) and some little bit of dry milk comes out but it helps, sorry if it sounds weird but hey :)

It honestly sounds a like thrush to me (a yeast infection of the breast). I would definitely speak with your OB about it because you want to clear up before the baby comes. I would suggest spending as much time as you can topless to let your nipples air out, do your best to avoid refined sugar (I know, near impossible with the holidays upon us) and start taking a probiotic (perfectly safe to take while pregnant).

My body itches all over. I'm 21 weeks pregnant with # 4. I would say it's a dry skin problem along with a hormone problem. I wouldn't worry about it and I most certainly would NOT use a rough wash cloth to "toughen up your nipples." By golly, you will make it worse! Can you call you OB and ask him over the phone? I would. Our doctors signed up for this job with us pregnant women needing info "after hours." I know it's the Christmas holiday, but if it concerns you that much, give him a call.

I would say it's normal, but to help yourself from worrying I would call your doctor. Is it from dry skin? The winter months for me is awful because I get really dry skin, but I am also pregnant so that doesn't help me either. Also have you tried putting lotion on them? If you doctor's office is closed (since it's Christmas Eve), I would try the lotion trick and if it helps. They could also just be getting bigger and when the skin stretches, it can make them itch!!!

My breasts have hurt since the beginning of this pregnancy, also my third. They have been sensitive, itchy, HUGE, and actually painful sometimes. I am due in 12 days (!!) and am hoping that once breastfeeding gets established it will settle down a bit.
When I asked my dr. about it, since they didn't bother me at all with my other two pregnancies, he said each pregnancy is different and sometimes the symptoms are different. Sorry!

Sounds pretty normal... looks like your body is priming itself for breastfeeding. Also, this priming is necessary to help with the contractions and ejection of the fetus... oxytocin/prolactin/etc are all part of the beautiful design of the female body.

You may notice it more now, because you're a veteran Mother.

I wouldn't worry. With each pg. your body changes quicker. Mine did that too, irriatating, but nothing big. My areoloa actually leaked something like milk too.

use a rough wash cloth in the shower, this toughens your nipples. I'm betting its just a hormonal reaction to being pregnant. Even tho this isnt your first, every pregnancy has it's differences..... itchy nips will just be a story for you to tell later.... They are probably swelling, but not enough for you to actually see with the naked eye. That is my guess.

I am sure it is normal, try putting Nipple (Nursing) cream on it, you can get it at target, Medela cream is the best. This will keep them moist and heal them fast, if you notice a change in color, then call you doctor, but I would deffinently bring it up at your next appointment but the cream should help, see my link.
