I have had three babies, and with the first two I gained under 25 pounds. With the third, I gained 30. The best advice I can give is that it's all in how you think about it. I always think about what goes in my mouth - calories, fat, protein, carbs..., whether I'm pregnant or not. I think a lot of people think that they can change their eating patterns when they're pregnant. If you normally eat healthily, just continue that - do not think that you can or should eat much differently when you are pregnant. I ate more calories, because I ate more often when I was pregnant, but that was simply because I was genuinely hungry more often. I still picked from the same general repertoire of healthy food choices that I have when I'm not pregnant. On the flip side, whether you're pregnant or not, as long as you are getting regular exercise, once in a while give in to a craving. You are carrying around an extra person, after all. But in general, do not in any way think of pregnancy as being a license to eat a ton more food. And just keep thinking about how much better you will feel post-partum each time you're tempted to pig out. It will be worth it on so many levels.
