Hi Everyone,

My kids really want to go to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. So we plan to vacation there in August. I was just wondering if you have any tips for me regarding our road trip there. Any places to stop on the way? Which waterpark is best? Any tips for spending time at Cedar Point? Any places to go near Sandusky? Hotel choices? Websites to check out for tips or deals?

Thanks in advance for responding to my request. I'd really appreciate getting your tips/ideas on making this a fun trip for my family.

So What Happened?

Hi Everyone,

We went to Cedar Point Amusement Park, Put in Bay, and Kalahari. It rained the first day while at Cedar Point. We left and were somewhat disappointed because we were only there 3 hrs. before the rain came pouring down everyone. However, it all turned out to be okay. We went back to the hotel for an hour, then ate at Max and Erma's and then went to Sandusky Mall for a bit. We decided to go back to Cedar Point since the rain had pretty much stopped. Well.. the lines were a lot shorter and we got on and off of rides and it didn't rain anymore while we were there. The light show at 10:00 was a nice treat. It was a great way to wrap up the evening.

We used Miller Ferries to get out to Put in Bay. We had a beautiful day for this and we enjoyed getting around the island with a rented golf cart for $40. Well worth the cost and fun for the kids. I'd rec. eating at The Boathouse... kind of fun for tourists since there was a guy singing and playing a guitar and the inside of the restaurant looked like a boat. There are quite a few things to do while on the island! I suggest going to Put in Bay if you're ever near the Port Clinton area.

We spent 3 nights at the Days Inn across from Sandusky for a total of $150. Nothing fancy, but everything was okay (especially for $50 a night), despite the reviews on tripadvisor.com. I got overwhelmed with reading the negative comments about so many of the hotels. We spent our last two days at Kalahari. Our room was ready 4 hours earlier than promised! It was expensive to spend one night. ($225) Howevever, besides using the waterpark, we got a few extras in our package such as arcade debit cards, free buffet breakfast for the kids and a $20 coupon to use in the pottery room. My kids loved wrapping up our trip to Ohio with the Kalahari stop. We even got to feed animals including a girafee and ride a camel... all under one roof! (A zoo in a resort!) The waterpark was huge and they sure had a lot of waterslides!

Thanks for your suggestions. I would suggest going to the amusement park if you really like roller coasters! There are 17 of them. My twins will go on any roller coaster that they can go on regarding height restrictions.

I have never been but do know that on the radio shopping show WBIG 1280 they have hotel/park packages. Not sure if there are any left but could save you tons. They were offering a hotel/ 4 park passes for $120 for one night. They also had a promo that if you spend 50 buck you could get a free pass. Check out their website. www.wbig1280.com

J.-I am a native Michigander and we went 2/3 times a year every year be cause we were only about 75 minutes away. There is a great bear lodge there. Triple AAA also has discount tix. As far as the hotels the are all pretty much the same price. I would get the 2 day pass including the waterpark there and some hotels offer a deal with early admission to the park--just google it.

If you really want to do one day at Cedar Point and there is a Kalahari there too which is awesome but it is separate and a good 5-6 miles from Cedar Point.

Port Clinton is also nice and you can take a boat ride over to the island. That is a bit north of Cedar Point.

Have fun!!

Hope this helps!!

J., I just got back and we go every year. Cedar point, soak city are great. My children are 2 and 4 and they love it. Breakers is a good hotel but more pricey than a comfort in. We actually stayed at Kalahari Resort and did that water park. It was pricey as well but it is our family vacation. The drive is only 5 hours so have your dvd player working. If you have any more questions let me know.
Put In Bay is a great family vaca too in Sandusky.

We loved Cedar Point. We where there last year, but we stayed in the Lake Erie area. If I went back I would stay at one of the resorts on the the Cedar Point beach. It is supposed to be one of the nicer beachs in that area, and you can walk from your hotel right into the amusement park.

I forgot to mention that you can get ticket deals at Meijer, and possibly Jewel.
