So last year we bought one. Stupid, I know. I need to know how to get rid of it. With my husband being out of work, we weren't able to take a vacation this year. We also aren't really able to do the monthly payments, but I can't NOT pay them because it shows as a mortgage. So I need to know how to get rid of it. If yo know a way that is not a scam and won't cost us money, please help!! Thanks!

*EDIT - Our timeshare is with Colonial Crossings in Williamsburg. My parents have theirs with Marriott and that one is WAY more beneficial (points, etc) that they can trade for. We don't have any of that. We can use up to 13 weeks per year, but with 3 kids in school still, really 2 is the max we can take.

From what I understand to make sure you are not being scammed is to contact the agency that sold it to you and tell them you wanna sell it. Also could you offer your T.S to friends or family who want a vacation and charge them a fee till you sell it?

Renting it is your best option at this point-where is it at? We have one with Wyndham and love it! Or fees are really low though and although we bought it in 2007 its paid off. I know allot of people who vacation so if you post where its at maybe word of mouth can get it rented until you can sell it

We've been stuck with ours for 7-8 years and still owe a lot. I used to rent it on www.redweek.com, but the last couple of years I didn't have much luck. Maybe craigslist would work better. I also used redweek to try to sell, but the other people selling at our same location are offering much lower prices somehow - they must already have paid theirs off. So we can't compete. I doubt we'll be able to sell with the economy as it is, but look into renting out your week to make back as much money as you can.

everyone i know who has one is flat unable to unload 'em. your best bet is to have the folks who sold it to you sell it for you (you won't make squat, this is how they stay in business) and rent it in the meantime.
sorry, babes.

You can rent it out to get the most benefit out of it or see if the place you bought it buys it back. We bought ours and everytime I have to pay the maintenance fee I scringe and ask if this is a good idea, but if you have a family and travel alot, this is where you get the most benefit. You can exchange it and go for a cruise instead. Just some ideas.

Try this website to get some answers from timeshare experts. You don't have to be a member to browse through but if you decide to become a member tell them I sent you. If you just want to get rid of it you can advertise it for sale here. You won't make a lot of money though. Do your research. It's a lot of info but basically never pay anyone to sell it for you as it's a scam. http://www.tug2.net/ This website has helped me so much in the almost 12 years we've owned one. We couldn't sell it as we'd loose too much money but we've been able to use our weeks for vacays we otherwise wouldn't have been able to take. I still wish we could get rid of it but we can't. Good luck.

First and foremost--who do you have yours through? We bought one almost 2 yrs ago and I've been willing to give it up numerous times. However, my hubby insists that this was/still is the right thing for us even though it's taking a huge chunk every month. I do have a contact who may be able to atleast talk to you.
