So What Happened?

Edmond, Thank you for your help.
I didn't have any symptoms, what happenned I lose a baby on February last year and my dr. send me for a few test, including thyroid which came back low; I was taking medication for 6 month and then; she send me for ultrasound and came back with 2 cyst, the primary dr refer me to endocrinologist. I had hard time finding an endoscrinologist when I find it in September, they give me the appt for December and he cound't do the biopsy because I almost pass out.

I asked the primary dr to recommend me another endoscrinologist and finally find dr. Bauman( a great doctor), which did the biopsy on January without any problem which came back with this (cancer).

Cure rate is like 99.9999% and most common in young women. Surgery is simple and recovery quick. You will take thyroid supplements. Sometimes it takes some tweaking to get it right. May need the radioactive pill but not sure. Chemo is never used.

Of all the cancers to have, this one is usually the easiest to remove and you'll have a very quick recovery as this cancer is usually self contained, if caught early. There will be an incision along your neck, and they try to make it in a crease, to remove your thyroid. You will probably have limited chemotherapy or radiation, which is focused on just one spot. And you will take thyroid supplements the rest of your life.

I have a girlfriend who just had her thyroid removed last month. She was never sick and looks healthy and normal and works part time, etc. She did start lactating last month, but that was caused by a side effect from a medication that caused her prolactin hormone to increase.

What were your symptoms that caused you to go in for evaluation? Honestly, you will be healthy and fine and this will have been a little bump in the road.

Hi M. - I don't really have any information, but just want to offer you my condolences and support. I assume you will have to have a thyroidectomy? I hope all goes well. I have an underactive thyroid, and take a hormone supplement daily to supply what my thyroid does not...at least I can say that taking this pill is super easy, and I have no side effects. I hope everything goes well for you.
