Hi there, Jackson is almost 10 months old. crawling, pulling up and cruising. I am home with him half of the week and my mother watches him for me some of the week while I work. I am looking for fun things to do with him that are age appropriate for him, we are near 41 and Proctor, I just wasn't sure what kind of things he would enjoy now but think it would be good to for him to start to be around other childeren. Most days we go for walks, run errands, and such but no real "activities" for him...any ideas?

What can I do next?

Hi K.,
My son is over 8 months old and very active. We are also looking to meet others in the area and share in activities and playgroups, etc. I go to library groups but would be more fun to meet there with someone on a regular basis.

I too am looking for things to do with my son who is 14 months old. I stay at home with him during the day and I feel that it is time for him to start interacting with other kids. I play with him some during the day but think it would be more fun for him to have kids his age. He crawls, and maneuvers around the house in a walker but needs more exercise then any of that. I live in Bradenton but I would be willing to go to Sarasota for playgroups as well.

Check out your local library. A lot of them have programs for babies, as well as a 40 Carrots Mommy and Me program (all free). Also consider signing up for a group like MOMS Club.it's a good way to meet other moms & kids.

The public libraries have programs weekly, but they don't run them in the summer. http://suncat.co.sarasota.fl.us/
Click on Calendar/Programs.
Parks and Recreation also has some programs, but again - they usually don't run them in the summer. http://parksonline.scgov.net/default.htm
Click on register at the top. Use the filters to find what you are interested in. There isn't much now, but check again in August or September. Usually Colonial Oaks has a good selection. There are also some mom's groups around. If you search old Mamasource requests and replies you can probably find them. Colonial Oaks always has kids and moms in the morning. The park is farther than you requested, but nicely shaded.
There is also a Kids Day Out Program at Sarasota Christian Church on Ashton Road, near the post office. They charge $13 for a morning (8:30-12:00). This would give you a few hours, and give Jackson some interaction with other kids. We use it with our two kids, but did not use it until they were about a year. They do take infants and the staff is very nice. Good luck and have fun!
