Anyone out there have a really great/accurate thermometer that they use? I am sick of using the cheapo kinds, but not sure what kind to invest some money into?

What can I do next?

We have an Exergen temporal scanner also and it is great. I also use it when my boys are sleeping. The higher cost of any temporal scanner definitely beats struggling with a squirming child while you wait for a minute or two for the other types of thermometers to finish reading the temp. If I recall, we paid under $40 for the Exergen model.

We bought this temporal thermometer from drugstore.com and love it. We can even take the kids' temps when they're sleeping. It only takes about 2-3 seconds to get a reading. So far it's been extremely accurate, much more so than our Braun ear thermometer. The temp only varies about 0.1% when repeatedly checking for accuracy. And our last trip to the doctor gave us very, very close readings to the ones we took ourselves at home just prior to leaving.

The only things I wish it had were a memory feature and a backlight for reading temps in a dark room.

We really like the Braun Thermoscan IRT 4520. It's quick and seems to be reliable. I read lots of reviews before purchasing it, and apparently some of the Braun thermometers are better than others. This one got consistenly good reviews, and in my experience is easy to use. I believe it cost about $50 at Target.

Just a warning on ear thermometers-it has to be aimed directly at the eardrum. That is not easy to do and many people don't realize that. It is by far the least reliable way to take a temp.

Ear thermometer is a must have for wiggly toddlers. Cost is not a factor, it seems the mid range cost works the best for me. But i have one i bought for $10.00 and it has worked for 5 years now. Of course i lost it twice for a while. Hope this helps!

I bought the temporal thermometer at Babies r us and we really like it. It claims to be as accurate as a rectal but way less intrusive. I am always checking my girls since it's so easy and quick to use. I think it was around $50.

I would recomend a temporal thermometer. They are the kind that you scan accross the forehead of your child- they cost anywhere from $35-$65. I am mother of 3, and a nurse and I use them at work & at home. Good luck!

I recently got a great one that is sooo easy. My pediatrican used it and I thought it was the coolest thing. It is called a temporal thermometer. You rub the tip across their forehead....that's it! Totally accurate (it reads the temp of the artery just below the skins surface). You can find them at walgreens but I found the best price is at Walmart. If you google "temporal thermometer" you can go to the companies website and print of a $5 rebate thingy. Good luck!

I've had the Thermoscan (ear) thermometer and the temporal thermometer. The Temporal thermometer is by far better. It's more accurate and consistent in it's temperature readings. I didn't think anything could be easier than sticking something in the ear but making a pass over the forehead is very slick. You can also take the temp behind the ear. I would keep a digital oral as a backup. When a temp seems very high and you want to make sure, another source is a good idea. I am a former nurse turned SAHM and that would be my nursey advice. Good luck!
