i am workin off that baby weight, so i have been looking up calories for thing i eat. I have also check out a few fast food place i hit in a pinch, and i got some surprises!!!! some little choices i made, thinking "oh, this will bea few less thatn that" were WAY OFF!
For instance, a crispy taco is less calories than a soft taco.
but the real shock was that dominoes thin crust pizza was a 100 cal MORE per serving (400 cal more for a med) that hand tossed!

what interesting caloric content have you discovered?

What can I do next?

I was dining the other day at Chili's or TGIF's and had quite the chuckle. The menu had a little symbol next to the lower calorie selections. Next to the symbol was this phrase: under 750 calories. Wow!!! I don't think they'll ever print how many calories are in the "regular" dishes!

Small sized Iced tea and lemonade drinks at most fast food places can have between 400 to 700 calories due to the sweetners and depending on which type of recipe/brand used! Diet soft drinks can be worse.

Wendy's small sized frosties have 310 calories (the ones the size of a medium bathroom Dixie cup) as opposed to McDonald's plain vanilla ice cream cone which is 150 calories. I thought they were both iced milk and therefore fairly low fat! Wrong! Here's more to make you think twice about a chilly treat...the Wendy's frosty with caramel is 1020 calories!!

That two small corn tortillas have a total of 70 calories and hardly any fat. Much better than flour tortillas.

mexican food is like strapping a tire of fat to your belly........its no surprise really but you can eat 1 meal that will be like 800 more calories than you should have in an entire day....add a margarita to that and youve just eaten 2 days worth of calories.

I dont eat fast food.......EVER so im glad i dont have to worry about that.

There is a free download from the apple store for Ipods and I pads and for androids called GO MEALS. it is the Calorie King book "on line" and you can look up most of the chain restaurants in your area and find out about the items they have on the menu. It tells you the calories, the fat grams, the carbs and the amount of salt in each item. It also has grocery store items too. And you can keep a running total of what you eat all day by dragging the item to "your plate". I used it once at Red Lobster - thought I was making a healthy choice (for a shrimp/spinach salad) but with the dressing on it, it was more than 1000 calories. I picked out something else to eat!

Asian grilled chicken salads! OMG! It seems like a no brainer to order one over pizza or a burger, and they're fresh, grilled and have a vinigarette style dressing, but most (not all) have as much as 1600 calories in them! CPK, PF Chang's -nightmares! And muffins -I felt like they were fattening anyway, but they seem to be a better choice than doughnuts, however large sweet muffins can equal THREE doughnuts in fat and calorie content. Stay far away!

Just curious where you are getting the info. I have always heard that it was much better to get the thin crust pizza. Good thing our Dominos here isn't very good so I don't get it very often!

Nutrition wise...I was a little saddened to find out that Chick-Fila's nuggets have lots of MSG in them. I always thought they were a somewhat better for you fast food restaurant.

That oatmeal has 150 calories (plain, Starbucks) and the toppings (dried fruit, nuts) have 100 calories each. Yum. That most coffee shops now offer some variety of oatmeal. The Caribou coffee 5 grain is the best.

Panera now posts nutrition information on their order board. Makes decision making easy.

I found that my fav. burger, the whiskey river chicken burger, has 950 calories! Just because it is chicken does not mean it is low cal!

I just heard on Biggest Loser that if you have a daily cup of coffee with 2 t. of sugar and 2 t. of cream, you'll likely gain 10 pounds just from that in a year! Wow! I had just eliminated my sweetened/creamed coffee about 2 months ago and my husband has eliminated soda.

We are seeing a difference on the scale but we are also limiting calories per day. (Me: 1700 cals and him around 2000.)
