The Trifecta

This past weekend I realized that I hosted the last Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holidays at my house. I'm not a "natural" with getting lots of food out at once, but I have definitely improved my "game."

Anybody else get the trifecta award for holiday hosting?

:)

So What Happened?

NY MetroMom - bless your heart. I'm so sorry to hear that about your mom. We are in a similar situation - my MIL (who used to host so many holidays) has severe, late-stage Parkinson's Disease. She barely made it here yesterday and I wouldn't be surprised if that was our last holiday together. :(

It's really hard when things change.

I've been hosting all the family holiday gatherings for a number of years now since my mom got sick (ovarian cancer) and my MIL became wheelchair bound. It is tough because every holiday means cleaning, cooking
AND trying to prepare the normal holiday stuff for my family.

But my mom is now in her final weeks (she is 82 and has had ovarian cancer for 8 years now) and she wasn't able to make it from the nursing home to my house yeaterday. So it was a very sad day and I realized I'll miss the years of having all the holiday gatherings. We humans never really appreciate the good things about the tough stuff of life that we deal with!

Go, Matriarch! I did not get the trifecta this year, but have in years past. It's fun, and exhausting!

Yup! My mother refuses to do it since, according to her, "I live in a bigger house with a double oven in the kitchen". haha. It's chaos for about 2 days before the holiday and a day afterward. I just finished "cleaning" my house for the 4th time in 4 days. :)

Not this year. I don't celebrate Christmas or Easter (I celebrate Yule and Ostara and I don't do a big dinner for either). I went out of town for Thanksgiving this year, and unless I cook, my family doesn't make a big deal out of it.
