That Crockpot/slow-cooker Smell and Taste

I am new to using slow-cookers mainly because I don't plan my meals 8 hours ahead. I just don't think that much about my meals.

My first meal was great but the cooker gave off a funny smell. Is this because it's new and will it go away after several uses?

I think the smell is from the ceramic insert and hope it does not make all my meals taste the same.

Any suggestions

What can I do next?

It's new....that why the smell. Might be the metal that the crock pot sits in...toasters have that funny smell the first couple of uses.

Hmm, did it have a plastic odor? I have never had this problem and have used many crockpots in lots of situations.

I am sure you washed the ceramic and lid it really well before you used it?

Also be sure to wipe down the actual crock pot.

I use the Reynolds wrap Crock pot liners. You purchase them where you get aluminum foil and plastic wrap. They make clean up easier and I have not had any funny smells or taste.

Remember to brown your meats before adding to the crockpot and be careful with seasoning. Since it cooks for so long, the spices and herbs can get a little over powering.

If this continues to happen, I would see about exchanging the crockpot..

It will be like that the first couple times you use it. There is a sterilizing agent on them the companies put on them before packaging. Its not harmful. It will go away with use. :) Also make sure that you wipe down the bottom of the ceramic pot and the inside of the warming container. Any little piece of dirt or leftovers between the two will burn off and give off that burnt smell sometimes too.

OH mine did that when it was brand new. Trust me if it's an actual Crock-pot it will not continue to do this. I have 2 and I use them all the time. Our food is ususally really yummy.

They also have crock pot bags, but I haven't tried these. I'm a little worrked about the plasitc cooking into our food.
