ThaHISD Entering Kindergarten Gt/vanguard Identification Assessment

My 5 year old daughter took the HISD entering Kindergarten GT/ Vanguard assessment today. It only took her about 40 minutes to finish the test so I am extremely worried that she didn't earn a high enough score to be admitted at a HISD Vanguard elementary school. From what I understand, the two-part assessment takes about 60 minutes to complete but it is automatically stopped when a student answers 5 questions incorrectly, ie. the longer the test, the higher the score. I would like to ask if there is anyone who knows approximately how long a Kindergarten test taker must take in order to do well on this test? Please note: I am not usually in the habit of placing so much weight on the labels others want to apply to a 5 year old. Unfortunately, considering the school we are are currently zoned to, this particular label is the determining factor in wheather or not my child will have the opportunity to achieve an excellent public education...Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide answers or suggestions.

My daughter took about the same amount of time (40 minutes) and scored very high in the test. She is now "labeled" as GT and attends the school we choose. She is very happy there and actually had ti take another test in which she scored very high again but I dont remember the name of the test nor the category in which she fell. We prayed a lot, that is all I can say but when she results came in the mail, we knew them. She is a very smart girl. Good luck S. and remember trust your little living treasure.

Both of my children (a boy and a girl) were tested and currently in the HISD Vanguard / Magnet programs. The test only took 45 minutes for both of my children and both were accepted into the program. Having been in your exact situation, it's difficult not to stress over something you have no control over. With that said I would not put too much weight into how long your child was being tested. From what I gather most of the test was to see what each child knows and/or does not know (some of which they may not have ever necessarily been taught at school). For instance, my daughter at the time was angry with us because she didn't know what a + (plus) or - (minus) sign was. Apparently this was one of the questions asked (or a picture of it shown) and she didn't know. That was the first thing she asked us and why we didn't tell her what it was. Go figure! I will always remember that day. My daughter is now in the IB program at Lamar. Good luck!
