I received the vaccination thursday morning. I have a huge reddish purple cirlce, very hot to the touch and painful. I have been waiting it out. I am now afraid it may be cellulitis. I have an autoimmune disease, i dont know if this had anything to do with it. It was not my usual dr that gave it to me. (i went to another dr in the practice) Has anyone experienced this? Should i call the dr tomorrow? I hate to go to the dr for no reason :( On the other hand, if this was on my kids or hubby i would have probably taken them.... go figure!

Thank you for your opinions :)

I thought people with autoimmune diseases Weren't supposed to get vaccines? I'd check with the doctor for sure. I would personally only get the tetanus or DT shot without the pertussis aspect, and I don't have an AI disorder/disease.

Because of your medical history, it would be wise to call the doctor's office and describe your reaction to the advice nurse. But this could be a normal response to the vaccine, indicating your body is mounting a good, robust defense.

Hope it resolves without further trouble.

Give them a call and go see them if they need to see you. My kids never had a reaction to any vaccine (nor did I that I can remember). The last time my daughter received a vaccine, she ran a slight fever the following day. At the injection site there was swelling, hotness, and redness. She said it was sore and I could feel a "knot". The doctor started her on an antibotic and we had to ice it 3-4 times a day for 10-15 minutes at a time. We also had to give her something for the fever for a day or two.

If you don't want to do anything tonight, go ahead and ice it a few times. Take something for the discomfort/fever and call the dr in the morning.

Call the doctor for sure. I have two auto-immune diseases and have reactions to all kinds of things. Last summer, I had an allergic reaction to a bee sting, then the medicine prescribed by the doc gave me another allergic reaction - it was horrible, I got cellulitis, and infection, had to watch for blood poisoning. Call the doctor.

good luck

I got the shot last year and did not have any reaction.. Call them in the morning, or stop by and have them look at it.
