Peroxide gargle or on a q-tip in the area. Saltwater gargle, Listerine, peppermint oil, baking soda paste on gums/tooth, chloraseptic (or any throat spray-contains a local anesthetic)
For the past couple days, I have had a HORRIBLE toothache (I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd go through labor any day over having a toothache). I called to make an appointment with my dentist yesterday. The options were to have an appointment today or Monday. I couldn't find a sitter for today so I had to choose Monday (And Justin couldn't take a half day to take care of Oliver during my appointment because there are only 3 guys in his department and 1 of them was already going to be gone today). That's 5 days away!
I'm taking 3 extra strength Tylenol and they aren't even putting a dent in the pain. Brushing it makes it feel better for about 10 minutes, but obviously I can't sit there and brush my teeth all day long. Justin's gotten sex the past 3 nights in a row (Which is a lot compared to twice a month) just because when we're having sex my mind can't concentrate on the pain in my tooth and for that half hour I'm pain free (The orgasms are just an added bonus at this point). Unfortunately, we can't have sex all day either.
This pain is making me very temperamental. Little things that Justin and Oliver do that normally don't bother me, are driving me insane. I have no patience for them. Last night I wasn't able to fall asleep until 3am because of the pain! I have codeine for my wrist and even that doesn't help my tooth pain.
Any suggestions on what to do until Monday? I'm miserable over here.

ambesol.. or anbesol i cant remeber how its spelled u can get it at any pharmacy type store cvs riteaid whereever.. its like gel in a small tube kinda like toothpaste and u rub it on your gums right below the tooth and it completely numbs it.. my fiance broke a tooth and the piece that was left in there was killing him but he couldnt go see a dentis for another 2 weeks due to money -we have no insurance- and after using that he totally forgot about it and the piece came out on its own a week later while he was eating something
Use toothpaste for sensitive teeth
Oragel. Topical anesthetic you can put directly on the gum where the tooth hurts.
V.,
ok.ready for this?I know it sounds weird,but.....Im assuming you have an infection or a broken tooth(ur nerve is exposed).I have experienced both and my favorite saying was"Id rather be in labor!)If you are not allergic,u take an aspirin(regular old aspirin)put in a small med cup(like what comes with your children's)add some luke warm water and crush the pill.you are making a paste.once you do,take a q-tip and get as much as you can in there,up toward ur gum all ovr the tooth.try not to swallow, just let it soak.I didnt believe it myself, but I was desperate one time and my SO's grand-mother told me.I then told my mother(who didnt believe me)and now swares by it.It will taste bitter, but it will help. Also, clove oil,at any drug store, put that all around the gum and tooth as well, works like a charm. It has numbing qualities and it will sting alittle at first(hang in there,it numbs)DO NOT SWALLOW CLOVE OIL.just let it sit, have a cup to spit in,and please know if you have allergies to any advice you may get today. It sounds crazy, please try it though.then us know!!!!!GOOD LUCK.I feel your pain. :)
Don't wait until Monday to be seen!! Even if it means taking your baby with you to the appt. If it's an abcess those can turn really bad really quickly. I had one a few years ago that almost had me hospitalized it got so bad so quickly. I also couldn't get an appt with my dentist and made an appt with urgent care instead and they gave me the wrong antibiotic. I ended up seeing both my dentist and a specialist on an emergency basis on a Saturday and needed a minor surgical procedure on the spot and two root canals later. I can't emphasize enough that you should at least have this looked at (by a dentist) before Monday, especially wtih that amount of pain and if there's any swelling or other symptoms.
You can do an oil pull with olive oil and clove oil...you can google how to do oil pulls...basically you swish the olive oil and clove oil in your mouth for as long as you can (I think they recommend like...10 minutes...). I second the clove oil...that stuff is awesome. Some health food stores have mouthrinses with clove in them...those can be somewhat effective. We get doterra's 'clove' oil...it's a higher quality, but I've used it for a lot.
Thats the worst! I just had 2 assessed teeth pulled and the pain pills my dentist called it to help me get to the appt day did nothing! I find aspirin worked best plus orajel. It tastes weird and will numb your tongue but it was my sanity saver! My infection was in my gums and it felt like razor blades and I had to keep reapplying the orajel but when it numbed it, I could stand it. Go get a few tubes and try it. Hope you feel better!
1) a really effective dental pain combo is Tylenol+ Ibuprofen.
1000 Tylenol (2 extra strength)
600- 800 Ibuprofen (3-4 200 pills)
This combo is safe to take any time (I take it for my knees... In the USMC we call 800 ibuprofen 'ground pounder candy'), just not for an extended period of time w/I a doctor's OK. Dentists use it on people sensitive to narcotics, it's usually given post natural birth, and chronic pain & military folk are often on this combo long term. Don't alternate. Take together.
2) Bite a whole clove
3) Call your dentist office and see if they'll phone in a temporary script for you to cover the weekend
DON'T use hylands teething tablets if you haven't got childcare. They make you high as a kite. You won't be in pain, but you'll be hallucinating, euphoric, and have bad judgement.
Can the dentist phone you in a strong Rx for pain?
I might be calling around to see if I could get an appt. somewhere sooner than Monday--that's a long time to wait!
Otherwise maybe Oragel, warm salt water rinses, heat on your cheek area....

I've had toothache pain so bad I now understand why people commit suicide because of pain! I'm not kidding - that's how bad my pain was.
One of the things I did was to go to the dentist and just get a shot of novacain to relieve the pain for a few hours. When the novocain wore off, the pain didn't return right away. I was pain free for about 24 hours. Call your dentist and see if they can at least do that much for you today or tomorrow. It won't take long - you could probably take the LO with you.
Aside from that, I found that Excedrin PM helped more than anything else to relieve the pain. It worked better than the vicodin the dentist prescribed. Try that.
You can also use an ice pack on the outside of your mouth. Eventually the cold will work through to your gums and provide you with some relief.
I have known people to use Baby Orajel also. It provides VERY temporary relief, but anything helps.
One final thing but a last resort is putting an aspirin on the tooth and letting it dissolve. I did that once and it really worked. Now some people say that it's not good for the tooth to do that, but when you're in extraordinary pain, you have to resort to extraordinary measures.
I hope some or at least one of these suggestions work. I have had many toothaches and have tried many remedies!
Good luck! Here's a hug for you!
Oil of clove bud;/clove oil--it will numb the area.
I have had really bad toothaches also the only thing that seemed to help for a bit was the teething tablets I gave my kids well they were teething. you can get them at walmart in the vitamin section they are called hylands teething tablets and they are amazing at taking away the pain pour 5-6 in the cap and then pour them in your mouth from the cap the more you touch them the less effective they are Good Luck
