My 2 year old has been getting his molars for what seems like weeks now. He is underweight the way it is. I give him motrin if hes in real pain, but I dont wanna give him too much. He will drink pedisure, and carnation instant breakfast so my question is should I just keep giving him those as meal replacement if he wont eat his meals?

What can I do next?

LOVE the suggestion about the fruit & yogurt smoothies. And I'd definitely keep up the Carnation Instant Breakfasts and Pediasures. It's better than nnothing, right? Hopefully he will be back to eating very soon. The liquid and vitamins is the important part and if you do the above, he'll get that.

yes.

Try giving him hard fruits like apple slices, carrot chips, thick toast, graham crackers. The hardness will help his teething and help the teeth break through.

Try to give him cold liquid stuff too, Like yogurt, cold spegetti ohs icecream, go back to the baby food stage two stuff so he can suck it down and not chew. at least he is getting something. This is temparary Mom he will get past it. He is fine on the carnation and pedisure. that has all the vitimins needed in it. You are doing great, this is such a helpless time for moms, you will get thru it.

make fruit and veggie smoothies and get a good juicer if you can afford it (one that you can put the whole fruit or vegie in with skin) and have him drink that and put veggie juice (home made) in a smoothie to help increase nutrition

I had the same concern when my little guy was that age. He got teeth later than most and has always been in the 25th percentile in weight. My ped just said not to worry about it and that he would eat when he was ready. To just give him plenty of liquids and try to make him as comfortable as possible. I fed him anything he wanted and just tried to find food that he would eat. It lasted about 3 weeks and then he was back to his old eating habits. Yogurt and jello were big hits for him during that time.

We have the same problem with our little man. I alternate with Tylenol and use teething tabs. I also keep jarred baby foods, add butter to anything reasonable to do so (ped recommended), make sure all dairy is as fattening as it comes and didn't quiver if he eats only goldfish. It appears to be working but we're not due back at the ped's office for four more months.
