Hi, moms! My almost 9mo daughter is getting her 6th tooth and it's causing her so much pain. The first five didn't seem to bother her, and she wasn't fussy much. But the sixth one is a killer. She wakes up at night and doesn't nap too well. I want to stay away from medications- can you recommend any home remedies?

What can I do next?

make a cup of really strong chamomile tea (no sweeteners). Dip a clean washcloth in it, twist it up, and freeze it. The chamomile has anti-inflammatory and calming properties, and the cold feels really good on the gums. Hylands teething tablets and Camilia drops (by Boiron) are also excellent to have on hand in the diaper bag.

a big carrot worked for our dd, she would just gnaw on it forever.

When my first baby started teething, my mom showed me what she used to do for us. She took a washcloth and put one ice cube inside it. Then, she took a rubberband and rubberbanded the washcloth right under the ice cube really tight. Then, she wet the washcloth with a little water to get it moist. Sure enough, both my kids would go to town knawing on that cold ice cube through the washcloth until it was gone! The cold would numb their little gums and the pressure of them chewing on the hard ice felt good to them. =0) Good luck!

I'm in the SAME position you are, with a baby the same age. Good to know I'm not alone in this, because I'm at the end of my rope with the sleep aspect of it. I did finally give her tylenol this morning at 5am after she kept me up from 1am on, crying off and on. I just put her down for a nap and tried the Hyland's teething tablets, which are homeopathic. I've heard some people say they are the best, while others say they don't do a thing. I guess it's individual, so we'll just have to see. Good luck!

For all three of my boys, I used homeopathic Teething Tablets (prefer tablets over the gel form) and they did well dealing with teething. My oldest didn't have it tough like my second son, but there were couple that were really hurting him and I gave it to him and it worked. So, from there, I had two more boys and gave them the same thing. With the gel form, you don't know if you actually got it on the sorness of the gems where the teeth were coming in and when they have teeth, you risk yourself getting bit by them too so I prefer the tablets. That poor baby... :)

Please make sure she doesn't have an ear infection. I've been finding that teething is rarely the underlying cause of any pain or discomfort. Hope she feels better soon!

ive always heard of whiskey on the gums to numb it, but I always got one of those toys that have like water in it, then I would refridgerate it and let them chew on it. It always helped my two. Or even a cool wash rag with water and let them chew on it.

The wet washcloth worked well for me, you'd be surprised how much relief they can get from that. Try both hot and cold...they might prefer one to the other.
