I wanted to see if anyone knew of any places that help with toys or clothing for single teen moms & the kids? I been looking through everything an can't find any places that will offer help. She is working an talking care of her 2 yr old son. she did apply for food stamps, but its not alot. but after she pays rent an the bills has nothing to work with. We are just trying to make sure her an her son have what they need. she just got an apartment an have nothing for it or for the little one for christmas. So if anyone knows any places that help please let me know. I have called the churches an none help,i also looked on craigs list for the free stuff but everything goes super fast on there. I use to think there was plenty of places that help single moms but i am seeing other wise.

What can I do next?

Hi, Here are a few good places to start:

*Pregnancy Care Center
*Furnish a Start
*Parental Stress Center
*Department of Public Welfare
*Housing Authority (section 8)
*Urban League
*Catholic Charities
*Salvation Army

If you can't get a number through phonebook/online/411 let me know and I will get it for you.

Good Luck...it is nice you are helping her out!

Hi H.,
I don't know where you live, but there is a women's shelter that is amazing in Bellevue (north hills) area. It is called Genesis. There is also a website called freecycle.org to get free stuff from ordinary people as ourselves.
I hope this helps and good luck!

In addition to Craigslist you can also post wanted requests for gently used items on Allegheny Freecycle, Washington Freecycle and Pittsburgh Freecycle.

Food bank for additional food supplies.

AngelTree Ministries for new toys and Action Housing is who we help provide new items to for Christmas for those in need.

You can also check the local pennysaver for church flea markets in the area. Our Church Emmanuel Lutheran in Eastmont (15235) is having one on the 15th of this coming Month. Often times there are toys and gently used household and linen items that could help meet some needs for very little $$.

Budget can be trimmed even more with cloth diapers, even if it is just for half the day. Lend a Hand Diapers and Miracle Diapers both help with gently used cloth diapers.

You posted a few days ago about the Has Bin. They donate items to an organization that assists women and children. I don't know the name of it but if you call the Has Bin I am sure they would tell you.

Maybe she should apply for food stamps. Has she looked at Angelfood Ministries? Cutting her food bill could free up some money for other items.
Also, she could start by calling The United Way and they may recommend agencies to work with her.
