Ok I have a question for all the moms out there. I have a 15 month old boy who has yet to produce tears that run down his face. I have asked his ped if I should be concerned and all I get is his eyes glaze when he cries so I shouldn't be worried. Has anyone else experienced this?

What can I do next?

When my son was a little over a year old he had the same problem. One of his eyes didn't produce tears. It would get this glaze film over his eye. Our pediatrician said that his tear ducts were clogged. He had to go to the hospital and have the tear ducts flushed. After that he was fine. I would ask your doctor about that. It is quick and easy proceduce.

M.,
One of my nieces could not cry when she was really little. They had to do a minor surgery to open her tear ducts. It has to be something genetic on her mother's side because my niece who had the problem has two kids. Her daughter had the same problem, but her son did not. I'm not sure if that will help, but I just thought I would share so you wouldn't think you had some really rare problem. The surgery never affected their vision. So please don't be concerned about that.

Little or no tears is a sign of dehydration or possibly blocked tear ducts. Does he drink water regularly? Sweet drinks or fruit juices don't replace water, in fact they make you more thirsty but at his age he may not know to ask for it and he can become dehydrated before he or you even realize he is thirsty. Begin offering him water several times daily in place of juice or anything else. If he doesn't like it try mixing it half and half, even with milk to get him to drink it. If this doesn't help I would seek a second opinion from another pediatrician. Good luck.

Maybe his tear ducks aren't open yet. I may open in time.

Hey girl I would definetely have the doctors check out his tear ducts. My brother as a child had the same problem and they have to give him new ones because his were not developed right. Just a suggestion.
